FRIDAY 9/22

FREMONT OKTOBERFEST--Beer is the main attraction at this popular Fremont event. Secondary entertainment includes the Texas Chainsaw Pumpkin Carving Contest, live music, Tubapalooza!, and a Thomas Kemper root beer garden for the underage. Parking lot beneath the Aurora Bridge, 5-11 pm, entry to beer garden is $15 (other attractions are free). Also Sat Sept 23, 11 am-11 pm; and Sun Sept 24, 11 am-6 pm.

BOOK FAIR--Looking for that rare first-edition set of Proust's Remembrance of Things Past? This is the event for you. The big players of Seattle area booksellers will be on hand with their collections of used, rare, and out-of-print material, as well as maps and photographs. EXPLORE PAST LIVES--This three-day conference will explore the notion of past lives and that concept's relevance to current psychological thought. Ever thought you may previously have been on the Mayflower, or maybe were a Lascaux cave artist? Find out once and for all at this experiential workshop. SATURDAY 9/23

FREE LEONARD PELTIER--Long a symbol of the abuses of judicial due process, the case of Leonard Peltier continues to generate outrage against the U.S. government and its Native American policy. This rally is in support of clemency for Peltier, who has now been imprisoned for 24 years. Sylvester Park, Capitol Blvd, Olympia, noon.


SUNDAY 9/24

PLANT SALE AND FALL FESTIVAL AT SAND POINT--Fall planting doesn't get much press compared to spring gardening, but true horticulturists don't neglect this important season. Join other gardening diehards at this expo. Sand Point Naval Base, 7400 Sand Point Way, 10 am-3 pm, free.

AIDS WALK--Although AIDS has fallen out of the public eye lately--at least in the U.S., due to new developments in treatments and therapy regimens--the crisis is far from over. Show up for the walk and take the steps to help eradicate this devastating disease once and for all. Seattle Center International Fountain, registration starts at 8 am, walk begins at 10 am.
