Kelly O

What does one extremely tall gay man wearing a T-shirt covered in shiny silver penises and a xeroxed picture of Yoko Ono's face have in common with the late (and great) Mia Zapata? Not a whole lot. This tall fellow, however, did attend Homo Alive—a benefit for Home Alive—this past Sunday night at the War Room. Home Alive is the still-excellent organization formed in 1993 in response to the murder of Mia Zapata, the 27-year-old who mistakenly thought it'd be okay to walk home by herself after a night of drinking with friends. We can't ever forget her. Or the need to look out for each other at 2:00 a.m. Honestly, I forgot about Home Alive. But it's still at it—self-defense classes, workshops, seminars. Check it out at www.homealive.org.
