It's not really the sport of football itself, but the spectacle that I love: lots of large, unathletic-looking men in tight pants and padding pulling each other to the ground to form piles with their bodies. Then there are the fans: lots of large, unathletic-looking men and women screaming, high-fiving, getting drunk and belligerent. It makes me want to crush a beer can on my forehead, do a touchdown dance, receive bear hugs from dudes, and stuff my face.

Lucky for Seattle, two new bars—Stix Billiards & Brewhouse (1001 Fairview Ave N, 749-9088) and Spitfire Grill (2219 Fourth Ave, 441-7996)—understand the needs of fans. Now that football season is here, both places will open on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. for "NFL Sunday Ticket," which includes extensive brunch menus, multiple high-definition televisions, free wi-fi for multitasking fantasy-football obsessives, and, of course, booze. (As the Stix website assures us: "Beer is now a breakfast drink!") If spending money on NFL brunch in a swanky new bar is unappealing, please enjoy this foolproof recipe in the privacy of your own home:

*1 envelope Lipton Recipe Secrets Onion Soup Mix

*1 16-ounce container of sour cream

Mix together. Eat with chips (I recommend Tim's Cascade Chips Original Flavor or Ruffles Cheddar & Sour Cream) and crudités. This dip tastes better when wearing sweatpants. GO HAWKS!
