To mark the 30th anniversary of the Patty Hearst kidnapping, the Stranger Liberation Army (SLA) kidnapped Seattle Weekly heiress Erica C. Barnett. The following tapes arrived mysteriously at local media. The FBI confirmed the authenticity of the tapes.

Communiqué #1

Voice of Erica C. Barnett: Chuck. Knute. I'm okay. I had a few scrapes and stuff, but they washed them up and they're okay. I'm not being unnecessarily frightened. I'm not gagged or anything. They kidnapped me because they believe the Weekly is a corporate "alternative" paper. I wont be released until the SLA decides to let me go. It wouldn't do any good for somebody to come in here and try to get me out. And you guys should stop acting like I'm dead. George should get out of his black dress. That doesn't help at all. The only way I'm going to be back with you guys is if you do what they say.

The SLA is willing to let me write articles while I'm here--articles about city hall and even about the monorail and stuff. I'm not being forced to say any of this. Bye.

Voice of Josh Feit: Greetings to the people. The SLA has arrested Erica C. Barnett for crimes Seattle Weekly has committed against the oppressed people of the world. The Seattle Weekly is owned by VVM, a ruling-class corporation partly owned by one of George Bush's top five campaign contributors, Goldman Sachs. VVM owns six pig propaganda outlets nationwide. Like all prisoners of war, Erica is being treated in accordance with the Geneva Convention. Long live the monorail!

Communiqué #2

Voice of Erica C. Barnett: Chuck. Knute. I'm still okay. But I'm starting to think VVM doesn't really care about me. Hey, have you guys ever been to Capitol Hill? It's really cool and stuff. Bye.

Voice of Josh Feit: Greetings to the people. The ruling-class interests of the pig VVM corporation contradict the interests of the people. Long live the monorail!

Communiqué #3

Voice of Erica C. Barnett: Chuck. Knute. I've been hanging out on the Hill with Tim and Dan Savage, and they are much nicer guys than I thought they'd be. Dan even helped me decorate my new apartment. Or maybe it was Tim. Anyway, I hope you guys see that I've been getting to write lots about city hall and the monorail and stuff.

Communiqué #4

Voice of Erica C. Barnett: Greetings to the people. I have been given the name E.C.B.

Communiqué #5

Voice of Josh Feit: Greetings to the people. VVM's corporate masters have contributed $270,475 to corporate dictator George Bush. Long live the monorail!

Voice of Erica C. Barnett: This is E.C.B. Greetings to the people. Long live the monorail!
