Grimes sings in an enchanting fairy falsetto that floats over and under lispy layers of shifting dream pop. Her otherworldly ambient jams (amb jams!) are intriguing to watch unfold in a live setting; she loops her voice, keyboards, and other gauzy sounds with obsessive knob turning, button pushing, and grinning. I dig her awkward dancing and bizarre style—medieval elfin future goth? Grimes also directs videos and once built a houseboat that set sail down the Mississippi River with a typewriter, some chickens, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and 20 pounds of potatoes as cargo.
