Description: Capitol Hill's Montana occupies the oddly wedged space previously known as the Buck, and it continues the Western theme—though it's a more rugged version, with black walls, graffiti-scratched countertops, and road signs with bullet holes.

What else: The lurking dummy in the Buck's bathroom vanished during the remodel. "It was the first thing to go. I've pissed my pants maybe eight times in my life, and seven were because of that mannequin," says charming co-owner, trouser-wetter, and plaster-lady-phobe Rachel Marshall. (She's the Rachel of Rachel's Ginger Beer, a local favorite made from all-awesome fresh/organic ingredients.)

Happy hours: Daily 5–7 pm.

Happy-hour drink specials: $2 Tecate, $3 wells, $3 whiskey–Rachel's Ginger Beer, $4 picklebacks (whiskey shot with pickle-brine chaser).

Worth noting: Fernet—a pleasantly sharp herbal liqueur with Jägermeister, Listerine, and Robitussin undertones—is on draft for $7. There's also a rotating choice of force-carbonated cocktails, such as the $6 salted orange margarita and the $6 Moscow mule, which people find freakishly terrific.

Happy-hour food specials: None, but they have $5 Frito pie (with Fritos, chili, cheese, sour cream, and jalapeños) and a short list of other delightfully greasy wonderments ($4 nachos; $5 Rain Shadow Meats hot dog, add chili and cheese for $1 more). recommended
