Description: Taqueria Tequila lounge adjoins a cafeteria-style Mexican restaurant in Greenwood, and its very basic and very gleaming interior resembles a shopping-mall food court. (When it's crammed with bargains, who cares that it's not outwardly provocative?)

Scene at 7 pm on a Friday: In a setup so endearing it's nearly painful, at the bar sit two silent yet companionable men, watching a Spanish soap opera and thinking their own thoughts. Beyond this, the place is empty. Outside, it's gloomy; the rain swirls.

Why you should go: Because the deals are insane. From noon to 11 pm Monday through Thursday, pints of Bud Light are just $1.25, and the perpetually priced 99 cent tacos are tasty enough, hefty in portion, and come in many varieties (chicken, beef cheek, and more).

Happy hours: Mon–Fri 3–6 pm.

Happy-hour drink specials: $3.25 well drinks, $3.50/$5.50 16- and 20-ounce margaritas, $3 drafts (Negra Modelo, Dos Equis). recommended
