Directed by Carlos Carcas and Norberto López Amado, the documentary How Much Does Your Building Weigh, Mr. Foster? is about Norman Foster, an architect who has had his successes (NYC’s Hearst Tower and London’s City Hall) and failures (Hong Kong’s HSBC Building and the iconic egg that is 30 St. Mary Axe). But what makes this documentary worth the time and effort is the cinematography by Valentín Álvarez. As I have said before, a film about an architect will fail if its cinematographer is weak or uninspired. This documentary, thankfully, did not make this fatal mistake.
