In our city we have Good Samaritan laws. I never understood this because I always thought Seattle was a nice city where people cared about each other. I discovered my mistake the other day when, in the midst of a massive asthma attack, I almost passed out in my "friendly" Capitol Hill neighborhood. Although the hospital was only two blocks away and I was literally begging for help as I sat on the ground gasping for air, people just walked around me. I guess their morning coffee was more important. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised; this is a city where people will drive around an old woman who has been struck by a car so they won't be late for work. Someday one of you who walked past me may desperately need a helping hand. When that happens maybe someone will just walk past you. That someone won't be me though. Karma's a bitch, but I'm not.
