Loser Republican Supports Sidran

Former King County prosecutor and failed U.S. Senate GOP candidate Chris Bayley sent around an e-mail message last week urging his friends to sign up as table captains for City Attorney Mark Sidran's May 10 mayoral kickoff fundraiser. (Sidran, a Democrat, formally announced his mayoral bid on March 27.) Table captains are in charge of rounding up $35-a-head guests to fill the tables.

The Stranger would like to pack the room with undesirable elements (i.e. Stranger readers). Please call the Sidran campaign to become a table captain (282-0248), or join our very own Stranger table. See page 7. NANCY DREW

Cops Ignore Gay Bashing

On Friday, March 23, at 1:30 a.m., Alejundro (25) and Kevin (21), a gay couple, were attacked by a bottle-wielding man on Capitol Hill at 14th and Madison. Evidently outraged by the couple's public display of affection, the attacker punched Kevin in the head and hit Alejundro with a beer bottle before fleeing in a white car.

Alejundro's friend reported that his bleeding pal called 911 and gave the license plate number to the cops before heading off to Harborview where he was treated for a "laceration to the lip," according to Harborview records.

Even with a clue in their laps (the license plate number), the police did nothing more than take an incident report the next day.

The Stranger, tire-slashing razorblades in hand, has submitted a public records request for a copy of the 911 tape, hoping to locate the car. MELISSA ROSS

Nicastro Makes Good on Renters' Rights

City Council Member Judy Nicastro passed the centerpiece of her renters' rights agenda on Monday, March 26--winning veto-proof 6-3 council approval. Among other kick-ass things, the ordinance will make it easier for the city to take legal action against landlords who violate building codes and/or retaliate when tenants complain about those violations. It will also guarantee a renter's right to organize around tenant concerns. JOSH FEIT

Unknown Runs for Mayor

"When I saw that Paul Schell was running, I figured I had a chance too," says 28-year-old bartender Caleb Schaber, who filed with Seattle's elections commission last week. The Blue Moon Tavern barkeep's interests include solar power and mysterious monoliths. JOSH FEIT
