Into the Abyss is yet another brain-stretching and soul-searing documentary by Werner Herzog. This time, the German genius studies a triple murder in Conroe, Texas and how the black hole of homicide sucks in anyone who happens to be nearby, from families to executioners to bartenders. Abyss examines arcs of dried blood, trees growing through cars at police impound lots, and rainbows seen by prison wives, but maintains an improbable sense of humor and hope. Plus, Herzog fans will get an unusually candid view of the director and his interviewing technique. Go. (See Movie Times)
