Since when did sushi become convenience food? Since Americans wised up and started overfishing the oceans like the Japanese, of course. If you're used to eating a plastic box full of dried-out California rolls for lunch, this tiny little sushi joint on Capitol Hill will blow your mind. Sure, it takes a little longer, but it tastes a damn sight better, and you get to experience this tiny, sushi version of a taco stand. There are only two employees, and there might be room for one person to eat at the counter, but mostly it's a take-out joint. Sushi Maki offers plenty of rolls—they run from $6 to $8 and they're absolutely giant. If you buy one roll and two nigiri, you can squeak by for under $10 and be completely full on sushi. I don't know of any other place in town with that kind of deal. Free hot water and tea bags are by the door. Bring cash, as they don't take credit cards.
