There is no center in New York artist Mika Tajima’s installation created for Seattle Art Museum. Paintings, sculptures, and videos—some by Tajima (also a member of the noise band New Humans), some famous pieces from SAM’s collection—are grouped together on all sides of the room as if they were their own cubicle areas, but the middle is empty. The installation, After the Martini Shot, was inspired when Tajima visited SAM just days after the collapse of Washington Mutual, whose rent money once formed the center of SAM’s financial portfolio. What comes in the aftermath of excess? First, sifting. (Seattle Art Museum, 1300 First Ave, www.seattleartmuseum.org, 10 am–5 pm, $15 suggested)
