THURSDAY 10/28

SEATTLE SYMPHONY -- This year's "Mostly Mozart" series kicks off with a concert that elides the "Mostly" from the title: the Bastien und Bastienne Overture, the Concertos for Piano No. 23 in A and for Violin No. 4 in D, and the Symphony No. 40 in G. Benaroya Hall, Taper Auditorium, 7:30 pm, $15-$47, 215-4747 or www.seattlesymphony.org.

FRIDAY 10/29

TRIO VORONEZH -- No specifics on what exact pieces this lute/accordion/double bass ensemble will perform, other than "classical and traditional Russian music." But what are such specifics compared to the heartwarming tale of them being discovered in the Frankfurt subway by renowned conductor Helmuth Rilling? Kirkland Performance Center, 350 Kirkland Ave, Kirkland (natch), 8 pm, $17 students & seniors/$20 general, 425-893-9900.

SATURDAY 10/30

SEATTLE BAROQUE -- Mezzo Jennifer Lane takes the lead role in a performance of Purcell's Dido & Aeneas. I've not heard her, but she's been associated in the past with McGegan; no surprise then that this performance will be on historical instruments. No problem, either, since even the most ferocious HIP detractors have to admit it works splendidly with lighter fare like this. Benaroya Hall, Nordstrom Recital Hall, 8 pm, $14 student/$18 senior/$23 general, 322-3118.

SUNDAY 10/31

SEATTLE YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA -- The kids kick off their 58th season with a program not entirely determined by the date. Sure, there's Sorcerer's Apprentice and Night on Bald Mountain (which will probably be joined at the hip for the rest of eternity), but you also get the Bach/Stokowski Toccata and Fugue, the Bizet/de Sarasate Carmen Fantasy (16-year-old Nicholas Sylvest soloing), and a West Coast premiere from Gavin Borchert, his Gjallarhorn, a symphonic poem inspired by Ragnarok. Benaroya Hall, Taper Auditorium, 3 pm, $5-$32 (FREE if you show up dressed in Halloween costume), 362-2300.
