THURSDAY 2/24

SEATTLE SYMPHONY-This edition of "Music of Our Time" features a definite highlight with the world premiere of Diane Thome's Like a Seated Swan for Viola and Computer-generated sound. In the unlikely event that it turns out to be a dud, however, there's still Adams' bouncy Chamber Symphony, Sheng's Two Poems from the Sung Dynasty, Peters' Tango, and the inevitable salute to Copland, his Two Pieces for String Orchestra. Benaroya Hall, Nordstrom Recital Hall, 7:30 pm, 215-4747, or www.seattlesymphony.org, $15.

FRIDAY 2/25

SEATTLE COMPOSERS' SALON-A monthly presentation of works by area composers-including works-in-progress-with plenty of time for questions, discussions, and rambling, pointless digressions. Seattle Mennonite Church, 3120 NE 125th St, 7 pm, $5 donation, tbaker@drizzle.com.

SATURDAY 2/26

NORTHWEST CHAMBER ORCHESTRA-Was it Albert Schweitzer who once said that he'd like to send the aliens the complete works of Bach, but that it would be bragging? Go to this concert, and you can't help come out feeling a little prouder of our species: the Canons and Ricercar from The Musical Offering, Cantata No. 82, Ich habe Genug, and Brandenburg No. 5. Also a fine Sinfonia (W.182, No. 2) from C. P. E. Bach, whom any aliens out there would probably enjoy just fine as well. Benaroya Hall, Nordstrom Recital Hall, Sat Feb 26, 8 pm, and Sun Feb 27, 2:30 pm, 343-0445, $22.50 students and seniors/$24.50 general.

BENEVOLENT ORDER FOR MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE-One way to deal with overplayed composers: tackle lesser-known pieces by them. This period-instrument recital features Tartini, but with a Concerto for Flute; and two pieces by Telemann, but they're offbeat Concertos (for Four Violins and for Recorder, Flute, and Strings). Plus, more familiar Vivaldi and Leclair; the Recorder Concerto, RV 441; and Concerto II, Opus VII for Violin, respectively. The Church, 6556 35th Ave NE, Sat Feb 26, 8 pm, and Sun Feb 27, 3 pm, 325-7066, $12 students, seniors, & members/$15 general.
