THURSDAY 3/22

SEATTLE SYMPHONY--Of all the violin prodigies that emerged in the past decade, none has been consistently as dazzling, or displayed such striking maturity, as Hilary Hahn, who is clearly at the beginning of a legendary career. Her talent is too prodigious to claim she has specialties, exactly; but the Barber Concerto is clearly a favorite, and what she shall perform in this concert. The neoromantic mood continues with the Symphony's rendition of Walton's Belshazzar's Feast. Benaroya Hall, Taper Auditorium, 215-4747, www.seattlesymphony.org, 7:30 pm, $10-$69. Also Fri-Sat Mar 23-24, 8 pm, and Sun Mar 25, 2 pm.

FRIDAY 3/23

SEATTLE BAROQUE--Thanks to the HIP movement, the number of acknowledged Baroque masters has increased exponentially in the past few years. Biber was never in danger of obscurity; but the resurgence of interest in Schmelzer and Weichlein has been a boon to fans of the period. This concert features unspecified chaconnes, sonatas, and passacaglias from the trio. St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 4805 NE 45, 322-3118, 8 pm, $16-$25. Also Sat Mar 24 at Benaroya Hall, 8 pm.

XY COLLECTIVE--The duo of John Ferguson (piano, violin, guitar, synthesizer) and Bruce Hamilton (percussion) perform an evening of improvisation and avant-garde compositions. I don't know either of these men from Adam, but the list of composers represented easily wins the (Nigel) Kennedy Award for Wildly Eclectic Programming: Bach, Thelonious Monk, Cage, Christian Wolff, and, presumably, Pete Townshend. (They only specify a piece by the Who, but I don't really see them essaying an Entwistle composition.) D.A.R. House, 800 E Roy, hamiltb2@cc.wwu.edu, 7:30 pm, $10.

SATURDAY 3/24

KEVIN K. PIH--I'm not going to claim a great fondness for solo tuba (hell, would anyone?), but it's Pih's doctoral recital, so I'm guessing his chops are up to snuff. Brechemin Auditorium, UW campus, 543-1201, 8 pm, free.

TUESDAY 3/27

RICHARD GOODE--Anyone looking for a one-man traversal of the Beethoven sonatas--the summit of the genre?--could do far worse than Goode's intelligent readings; which should be amply demonstrated by his performance of the romantic Sonata No. 31 in A-flat, Op. 110, which tricks so much from its delicate opening. Also two pieces by Bach (French Suite No. 1 in d, BWV 812 and Partita No. 1 in B-flat, BWV 825) and a potpourri of Chopin; which makes this evening both musically satisfying and a suitably breathtaking display of virtuosity. Meany Theater, UW campus, 543-4880 or 292-ARTS, 8 pm, $35.

KUOW 94.9 FM, 3 pm.

SUNDAY 3/25

BREAKFAST WITH THE BEATLES--Brings the Beatlemania franchise closer to institutionalized generational phenomenon, interpreted by Nick Gillespie on Suck.com as "an attempt by aging boomers to colonize the youth of their children, to make all who come after them replicate the boomers' own sensibilities, tastes, and experiences in a way far more totalized and stifling than anything the '60s generation rebelled against." KZOK 102.5 FM, 8 am.

SUNDAY BRUNCH--Two hours of the "great songs and great memories" of 1940s big band and swing. Hosted by Bob Liddle. Sponsored by Providence Point, an Active Adult Community. KIXI 880 AM, 11 am.
