1. DEXYS MIDNIGHT RUNNERS "This Is What She's Like" (promo Mercury 12-inch) I know, I know... you've only heard "Come on Eileen." So you don't appreciate this, taken from the peerless Don't Stand Me Down LP, possibly the greatest song ever written. Your fucking loss. Asshole.

2. WU-TANG GANG "4th Chamber" (taken from the forthcoming Wu-Tang CD Wu-Chronicles) Rap as I always understood she should be wrote--spooky, high school fantasy, taut and with lashings of attitude. Wu-Tang may have lost their way recently, but this rules.

3. CHEAP TRICK "Oh, Candy" (taken from the Legacy CD Cheap Trick) I'll 'fess up. Up till last winter, I figured Urge Overkill circa Saturation and ace Australian mods You Am I took Badfinger and the Who as their main inspiration. Duh. Now I suddenly understand Americans having a sense of pride.

4. ULTRASOUND "Stay Young" (from the import forthcoming Nude CD Everything Picture) Over-stuffed, ultra-trendy U.K. band who sound like pinkfloydegenethevervesuedespiritualizedsonicyouthplaceboyeswhowishboneash... rolled into one. Good single, though.

5. MAKE UP "R U A Believer" (from the K CD I Want Some) Wanna enjoy some low-rent James Brown without the prison tattoos?! Scream it! Scream it! "R U A BELIEVER?!" Just say yeh yeh.
