:1. ELLIE GREENWICH "You Don't Know" (from the Razor & Tie CD I Can Hear Music: The Ellie Greenwich Collection) Trembling, doe-eyed '60s girl group music from the songwriter responsible for "Be My Baby," "Chapel of Love," and "River Deep, Mountain High." Absolute perfection.

2. OLD TIME RELIJUN "Dagger" (from the K CD Uterus and Fire) How ya gonna resist anything from Phil (Microphones, Dub Narcotic) Elvrum? Like Beat Happening turned even more primordial.

3. NIKKI McCLURE "Godzilla" (from the Yoyo A Go Go CD Another Compilation) Audience participation has never sounded so fun.

4. NANCY SINATRA "Like A Rolling Stone" (from the DCC LP How Does It Feel?) Cool, laid-back, brassy cover of a song which should be way beyond the pale even for Nancy, the most desirable woman of the '60s. Great new collection, too.

5. SUPER FURRY ANIMALS "Hermann 's Pauline" (from the Flydaddy CD Radiator) Welsh band who make me smile every time I think of them: psychedelia, prog, techno, lolloping pop melodies, and rare intelligence all in one, irrepressible package.
