Why do you choose to mimic these wack MCs? Why do you choose to listen to R&B?Why must you believe somethin' is phatJust because it's played on the radio, 20 times per day?

Yes, one of my favorite-est MCs of all time may finally be emerging from his lengthy label limbo... freakin' Pharoahe Monch is reportedly close to inking with Runyon Ave., the new Shady Records imprint run by Denaun Porter-AKA Kon Artis of D-12. Porter has also been making a name for himself outside of the D-Twizzy sphere by producing joints for the G-Unit camp, as well as moonlighting as R&B crooner Mr. Porter (see Young Buck's "Look at Me Now"). I just hope homie can do what those bums at Rawkus Records couldn't (even with the monster hit that "Simon Says" was)-bring Monch, one of the most mind-boggling mic talents ever, a commercial success.

Attention NW rap fans: Oldominion's Sleep is in need of emergency surgery-and you can help by showing up to a benefit show June 18 at the Rainbow. The benefit lineup includes the Chicharones (Josh Martinez & Sleep), Grayskul, Sirens Echo, and Barfly, among others. Then, cop Sleep's new LP Christopher, featuring Abstract Rude and muthafuckin' Masta Ace(!). With Sleep's fully auto delivery, Christopher is another very strong showing from the Owl this year.

Check the fly shit-Aristocrat's nightclub is being remodeled and its downstairs is now being called Home. Saturday nights you're gonna wanna go do you at Home's "Flavor"-the brand-new night brought to you by your world-famous Massive Monkees and the people's champ, DJ Scene. Talk about it-and be about it!

Iisei (pronounced E-say, not to be confused with Esai) just dropped his debut Uncommon Ground. Over tight production, courtesy of his cronies Kamaine and Middleman, Iisei (formerly of B'ham's the Paradyme) displays a nimble flow, weighing in on personal trials and the state of thangs while maintaining a sense of humor. H-Bomb and RA Scion both pop up on a couple tracks here, as well-I say check it out, and ya can, at www.iisei.com.

Hey, wasn't it great when 50 and the Game put an end to all their bullshit recently? When they gave back to the kids, then kissed and made up? Gave ya hope that grown folks could put aside pettiness and show the chirren a better day, didn't it? Well, kill that noise, hippie-their PR truce is bound to be tested by Game's onstage taunts at the Hot 97 concert in NYC recently, where he mockingly proclaimed, "g-g-g-G-U-Not" and beat a rat-costumed 50 stand-in...

But back here in the real world, the case of Biggie's murder continues to go absolutely nowhere, as the informant who alleged the plot was hatched between Suge Knight and a rogue LAPD cop has rescinded his statements, calling his previous testimony "hearsay" and himself a paranoid schizophrenic. Seem at all suspect to you? Naw, me neither. ■
