SATURDAY APRIL 10

LANCE DE SARDI, J. T. DONALDSON

Soulful, funky house sets are as common in Seattle as bums on Broadway. But when it comes to separating the wheat from the boys, few in town have better knowledge of quality shiznit than Downlow Records' DJ Ryno and Jon Lee. Lance De Sardi (AKA Land Shark) and J. T. Donaldson produce trax for house standard-bearers like Naked Music, Seasons, and Classic, so while you may not be surprised by their selections (save for a wicked version of Ol' Dirty Bastard's "Got Your Money" De Sardi dropped in a set archived on www.undergroundhouse.net), you will experience the comforting sensation of having your deep, smooth house needs met with gracious customer-service skills. With Jon Lee, Ryno, and Wesley Holmes. Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison St, 324-8000, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $7 before 11 pm, $10 after.

DEAD SCIENCE YELLOW SWANS

D. Yellow Swans--Portland's Peter Swanson and Gabriel Mindel--scrape, scuttle, and scour at the fringes of lo-fi noise improvisation, peddling the sort of sonic pathology Throbbing Gristle and Severed Heads perpetrated before you were born, and in line with the eardrum damage Wolf Eyes execute now. Tonight they hook up with one of Seattle's most melodically sophisticated and dynamically striking rock bands, the Dead Science. They promise an evening of "art songs on guitar, upright bass, voice, and noise arrangements" as part of Loss Leader's Open Secrets series of "interdisciplinary punk rock shows." With PAN, In Museums, and Goatmax1. Vera Project, 1916 Fourth Ave, 956-VERA, 7:30 pm-2 am, all ages, $7, $6 with Vera Club card.

DAHLIA, KJ SAWKA

One of Portland's most cherished live bands, Dahlia give good Portishead. Fronted by velvet-gowned diva Jennifer Folker's future-blues belting, the group wander through popular electronic styles with tasteful eclecticism. Judging from the small dose of music I heard from the group's website, Dahlia could tap into the same lucrative markets as Crystal Method and St. Germain. KJ Sawka is the sort of drummer who could give Squarepusher a run for his renegade snares. Listening to him, you wonder, "Is it live or digital? Human or sample?" ToST Lounge, 513 N 36th St, 547-0240, 10 pm-2 am, 21+, $7.
