FRIDAY OCTOBER 1

FEDERICO AUBELE

On his debut album for Thievery Corporation's ESL Music, Gran Hotel Buenos Aires, Argentinean guitarist/producer Aubele skillfully weds dub production and gently rolling rhythms to tropicalia and tango accents and romantic balladeering by four female vocalists. His crystalline guitar lines spangle and ripple throughout it all, setting a pleasantly languid mood, although the album occasionally dips into the beige, mature-to-a-fault downtempo of Zero 7. Tonight a six-piece band joins Aubele. With DJ Darek Mazzone, DJ Sven. Mirabeau Room, 529 Queen Anne Ave N, 217-0654, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $10 adv, $12 DOS.

DIESELBOY, MC J-MESSINIAN, ZACHARIA

Drum 'n' bass' hardest working man returns yet again to pummel the true believers with his bombastic, coal-black dub plates. Dieselboy's latest mix disc, 2004's The Dungeonmaster's Guide, is his weakest, but his track record--and box of vinyl--is too strong for him to be dismissed. Seattle mainstay Zacharia represents with some brawny, darkside DJ weapons that graphically explain why he's our city's go-to jungle guy. Knees will tremble, chests will cave. With Aaron Simpson, Rob Noble, and others. Studio-B, 333 Elliot Ave W, 333-5534, 10 pm-4 am, all ages, $15 adv.

PLAN B, DJ COLLAGE

Kicking off Patrick Haenelt's new night, Elixr, an "ongoing series showcasing dub, triphop, and downtempo groove," are Seattle's Plan B and recent Portland transplant DJ Collage. Plan B have expanded into a cinematically orchestral triphop ensemble that impressed a big crowd at this year's Bumbershoot. Collage toasted over several cuts on Meat Beat Manifesto's deep 2004 album, In Dub. A practitioner of Jamaican "ram dance" chatting Ă  la Yellowman and Nicodemus, Collage lays down verbals over 2-step and deep drum 'n' bass beats by bigGnome. Prepare for a mighty culture clash. With Ganesha Column; visuals by V-8 Media. ToST Lounge, 513 N 36th St, 547-0240, 10 pm-2 am, 21+, $6, ladies free before 11.

Fresh off his appearance at Decibel, British nu-breaks innovator and downtempo don Tipper once again unleashes his subwoofer-blasting mutated electro and distressed Miami bass. Maximum cochlea damage at a bargain price. With DJ Smile and Subconscious. Baltic Room, 1207 Pine St, 625-4444, 10 pm-1:30 am, 21+, $5.
