FRIDAY NOVEMBER 26

APHRODITE

British DJ/producer Aphrodite (AKA Gavin King) is a master of jump-up jungle, an adrenalized, minimalist strain of drum 'n' bass designed to keep dance floors burning at maximum intensity. Given the extreme funkiness of Aphrodite's music, it's no surprise he's worked with several rappers, including Big Daddy Kane, Schoolly D, and Rah Digga on his 2002 album Aftershock. If for nothing else, Aphrodite deserves props for one of the greatest mashups ever, "B.M. Funkster," in which he meshes the O'Jays' "For the Love of Money" with DJ Mark the 45 King's "The 900 Number." Aphrodite's also issued heavy D&B classics with Mickey Finn on their Urban Takeover label. Whether spinning his own fizzing, powerful anthems or those of people like DJ Teebee or High Contrast, Aphrodite is one of the safest bets to whip up a killer drum 'n' bass party. With Zacharia, Rob Noble, Aaron Simpson, Arithmattik, and others. Studio B, 333 Elliott Ave W, 333-5534, 10 pm-4 am, all ages, $15 adv./$20 DOS.

BAD BOY BILL, STEVE SMOOTH

For hard-house bangers and short-attention-spanned mixing techniques, Chicago's Bad Boy Bill reigns supreme. Don't be surprised to hear fragments of 50 tracks during an hour, all of which will raise your heart rate to dangerous levels. Best known for his Bangin the Box series of mix CDs, BBB's not subtle, but he pumps up crowds like a WWF ring announcer. He's also one of the most self-aggrandizing DJs out there, with a hype man reminding you every minute who's behind the decks. Crass, yes, but the egomaniac does have mad skills. Element, 332 Fifth Ave N, 441-7479, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $10 before 11 pm, $15 after.
