Husbands and Wives

The Dancer and the Detective/Lake City/Fri Oct 8/9:30 pm: While Police Beat was at home with his wife and three-year-old boy -- who was learning the words to "Puff the Magic Dragon" -- Detective Dituse was at Rick's, a dimly lit gentlemen's club on Lake City Way, having a ball with a young erotic dancer from West Seattle. The detective then had the gall to describe this "fun night out" (as most married men would call it) as a "covert inspection of the above listed establishment," and accused his dancer (who had long brown hair, big brown eyes, and wore a "white two-piece outfit") of doing what erotic dancers are generally paid to do: "caressing/fondling" and "illegal touching." Though the dancer was not arrested at the time of her crime, our man from Vice has requested a warrant for her arrest.

Metropolitan Sergeant/Downtown/Sat Oct 9/10:00 pm: Tonight, police arrived at the Green Tortoise Hostel in regards to a found property call. The shift manager for the hostel told them a black gym bag had been in the hostel's storage area for over a month, and she was concerned its contents might be dangerous. Wasting no time, the cops looked into the bag and found, beside clothes and poker cards, 42 live 9mm shells, one "metropolitan Sergeant's" badge in a black badge holder, one pair of Smith and Wesson handcuffs, and two address books which included the numbers and address of Deja Vu strip clubs across the country. All of these bizarre items were placed into evidence.

"95% of His Body"/Westwood/Sun Oct 10/7:23 am: This morning, a woman called the police and informed them that her husband was on fire. When the cops (Officer Poblocki and his partner) arrived at the home on Cloverdale St, they found the woman's husband "pacing back and forth" on the lawn, with most of his body severely burned. Officer Poblocki surmised that the burnt man was "upset," and so assured him that fire personnel were on their way. When Seattle Fire Department Unit 27 showed up moments later, the cops began investigating the incident. It didn't take long for Officer Poblocki and his partner to figure out that the seemingly devoted wife was at the cruel center of all this smoke and pain. They placed handcuffs on her and read her rights to her, as the strong smell of gas seeped out of the house, choking the morning air. Her horribly disfigured husband was transported to Haborview Medical Clinic, where he later died from burns which covered 95% of his body.

Afraid/Ravenna/Sun Oct 10/8:40 am: When police responded to a 911 hang-up at a home on 32nd Ave NE, they contacted a 26-year-old woman who explained that after five years of marital bliss, she and her husband had their first big disagreement that morning. They began arguing at around 8:15, exchanging mean and almost unforgivable words. When she finally broke into deep and bitter tears, their five-year-old son phoned 911, because he was taught to call 911 when he was afraid.

The Wild, Wild West/Central District/Mon Oct 11/2:30 am: A man who is employed as a DJ at Mesob (a family-owned Ethiopian restaurant on 23rd Ave and Cherry, which Police Beat frequently visits, as he loves their spicy chicken dishes) was, as reporting Officer Neubert put it, "playing music from his home country, Ethiopia, to a small group of males." Suddenly three men at the bar became hostile "due to what was described as a political [song]," and assaulted the DJ. They then picked up a piece of his stereo equipment and tossed it through the window, which shattered into the street. However, this did not satisfy their appetite for destruction; they immediately began throwing chairs around the restaurant, as if it were a Wild, Wild West saloon with lots of breakable furniture, and struck the DJ (an updated piano player) with "several objects." Their rampage went on until the restaurant owner and his partners circled and subdued the men. The three men were later booked into King County Jail by Sgt. Worstman.
