Pretty Parlor
119 Summit Ave E, 405-CUTE

Hmm. Suddenly your calendar is full of holiday parties and dress-up hoo-hahs. What are you going to wear? This is the time of year that you gotta step up your game—dust off the suit jackets and pull out the fancy pants. If you’re like me, though, the only fancies in your closet are the same ones you wore last December. Just in time, as if on cue, is the reopening of Pretty Parlor, in its original Capitol Hill location. Not only is it an immaculate boutique, with vintage and one-of-a-kind pieces stitched by local designers for both men AND women, it has a “store-within-a-store” with the opening of Ruthie’s Sewing Shop. Miss Ruthie can custom tailor that favorite bedazzled dress to ?nally actually ?t you. She can also custom sew you a pair of jeans, or design a men’s suit completely from scratch (like the one she’s making for Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla to wear to the upcoming Grammy Awards). The store is also going to host quarterly fashion shows, with their new custom-made runway and amazing “weight-bearing” chandelier (yes, you can swing from it!), and they also plan to have plenty of “trunk shows” with individual designers.

With all the options at this Parlor of Pretty, you have no excuse for looking like a shlumpy slob in the next couple weeks. I’m telling you, get in there. KELLY O
