FRONT OF BOOK Letters: Once again, only a half page. Obviously, Stranger readers with opinions must look elsewhere.... Last Days: As always: brilliant!.... NEWS As (almost) always: dull!.... SPECIAL PULLOUT A massive special section devoted to the Bumbershoot arts festival. Given The Stranger's year-round disdain for the local arts community, I find it curious, if not outright disdainful, that the paper would devote so much space to an arts event.... SHORT FEATURE Skimmed.... FEATURE Also skimmed.... THEATER A pleasant, intelligent piece by Bret Fetzer, a former regular Stranger writer whose presence has been sorely missed.... BOOKS Didn't read.... ART Didn't read.... FOOD Didn't read.... MUSIC A small section, given the special pullout.... FILM A well-written review by Emily Hall, followed by a pointy-headed review by Charles Mudede, and a long-winded, idiotic review by Bradley Steinbacher. The result: Read just the first review, then move on.... ETC. In Arts News: Didn't read.... Nightstand: Didn't read.... Some Candy Talking: A major slam against The Stranger's chief competitor, the Seattle Weekly. Surprisingly, though, said slam appears to have much merit.... Live Wire: Didn't read.... The Truth: Didn't read.... Underage: Didn't read.... Data Breaker: Didn't read.... The Score: Didn't read.... Erasing Hours: After two weeks of drivel, Sean Nelson manages to turn in a column with a teensy amount of worth.... Savage Love: Smutty and poorly written.... I Love TV: Smutty and nearly well-written.... Control Tower: Smutty and confusing.... Celebrity I Saw U: Smutty and too gay....
