October 9, 2003 - VOL. 13, NO. 04

FRONT OF BOOK Letters: Skimmed.... Last Days: True genius.... NEWS A very small section this week. Why? Here's a theory: The Stranger's news department was unable to file stories this week because it finally put itself to sleep with its own reporting.... FEATURE A special "Genius" package, wherein the winners of The Stranger's Genius Awards are finally--finally!--revealed. Will this mean we will no longer have to read about the awards week in and week out? Don't count on it: If there's one thing The Stranger knows how to do well, it's to savagely kick a dead horse. Expect to read about the Genius Awards for the next seven months.... THEATER Quite possibly the most solid arts section of the paper.... BOOKS Quite possibly the dullest arts section of the paper.... ART Didn't read.... FOOD Also didn't read.... MUSIC A large piece on "death metal" which, surprisingly, makes for an entertaining read. The rest of the section, however, is a little uneven.... FILM Quite possibly the dumbest arts section of the paper.... ETC. In Arts News: Yet another Genius Awards plug.... Nightstand: Skimmed.... Live Wire: Also skimmed.... Drunk by Noon: Two words: Unable to muster interest.... The Truth: Didn't read.... Underage: Didn't read.... Data Breaker: Didn't read.... The Score: Didn't read.... Some Candy Talking: Didn't read.... Savage Love: Too gay.... I Love TV: Too gay.... Control Tower: In a word: Huh?.... Celebrity I Saw U: Too gay....
