This time holed up in Josh Homme's Pink Duck Studios with a backing band, instead of in her apartment with rudimentary recording equipment, Dum Dum Girls leader Dee Dee has constructed a big, lush album with Only in Dreams. But more importantly, with Dreams we finally learn that she can sing—and you bet your soiled britches she can sing! Chrissie Hynde comparisons are being thrown about a lot, and I won't dispute that here, and ultimately this is why Dreams sets Dum Dum Girls apart from their peers in a sound originated by outfits such as Black Tambourine (some of whose members would later sign to Sub Pop in the early '90s under the name Velocity Girl) and the Jesus and Mary Chain. recommended
