Local filmmaker Shaun Scott (Seat of Empire) is a historian DJ. In his 2010 doc Waste of Time, he animates the rise of our national consumption problem—with a focus on Seattle history—using archival footage and locally produced music. In his hands, images are never allowed to rest. Occasionally, which feels appropriate given the subject matter here, you have to close your eyes for a spell. The movie will show at NEPO House tonight alongside photographs by Virginia Wilcox of people “absorbed by and involved with their mobile devices, and images of bleak postindustrial landscapes in rural America.” Drink, snack, and Q&A. (NEPO House, 1723 S Lander St, www.nepohouse.org, 6–10 pm, suggested donation $5)
