Man oh man! I heard some really great news earlier this week and was so excited to tell everyone I know, but just as I was about to open my big mouth I was asked to keep the secret very hush-hush. But worry not! As soon as I'm given the go, I'll be sure to fill y'all in on what may be going down before the end of the year. Until then, let's focus on stuff I can talk about, like the Golden Gardens Teen Center and their (criminally) unknown all-ages venue in Ballard, the Brick House.

The Brick House, out at Golden Gardens Park, has been hosting all-ages shows since August. Patty Hinkle, Brian Jackson, and Carrie Hallgarth have been hard at work pulling together Saturday-night shows showcasing young local bands.

"We all got together and it was like magic," said Patty about the first time the three friends met back in August. "We all clicked really well. We all had the same things in mind, so we basically took over the teen center."

"We consider ourselves the Kate, Shannon, and James for Golden Gardens," Patty continued, referring to the Vera Project's power trio, Kate Becker, Shannon Stewart, and James Keblas.

The Brick House is really just that, a plain brick house out on the beach--secluded enough that loud concerts don't bother neighbors, but secure enough to ensure kids are safe in the area. But unfortunately, the building is going to be renovated and the Golden Gardens Teen Center will probably lose its access to the space--meaning no more all-ages shows there.

Luckily, there are still a few shows left before the Brick House sees its end. On Saturday Oct 19, Point No Point, the Humidiflyers, Sonafield, and Yeek Yak Airforce are playing. And Saturday Oct 26 brings Pistol for a Paycheck, Bent Kactis, Schoolyard Heroes, and guests. Both shows start at 6:30 pm and are free, free, FREE!

And without saying anything I'm not supposed to say, I will mention that the Golden Gardens folks have a lot to do with that big exciting news I mentioned earlier, so they could definitely use your support. Need a hint?

"Maybe we should just say we are currently working on a new project that will benefit the Ballard teen community," said Patty.

We'll just leave it at that for now. MEGAN SELING
