It's officially summer, and this time of year Seattle explodes with nonstop rock-and-roll action. There are so many shows on the 21st, it's insane!

Option number one is the School's Out Showcase, starting at 1:30 pm at the Fremont Fair (at the corner of Evanston Ave and 34th St). The lineup is stellar, featuring Mechanical Dolls, Smoosh, Schoolyard Heroes, and DEK. I'm sure if you read Underage with any sort of regularity (and by golly you should be!) you're familiar with the zombie-obsessed Schoolyard Heroes and the adorable pre-teen pop duo Smoosh. But what you might not know is that the showcase's headliners, DEK, kick some serious booty too! Fans of T.S.O.L., Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys--all that snotty '80s punk rock--will certainly be impressed by the group of 14- to 16-year-old kids who are taking an old sound and making it their own.

Option two is Burning Heart Fest 2. This year's BHF will go down in the lot next to Atlantic Street Pizza in the U-District (5247 University Way). The doors open up at noon and the whole dang thing is FREE (although they will accept donations). It's quite a lineup too: Woke up Falling, Autumn Hates Winter, Yeek Yak Air Force, the Senate Arcade, the Clarity Process, Sonafield, Dorkweed, Luna Park, Quiet after Nine, and Every Last One. You can find more info at the official website, www.burningheartfest.cjb.net.

If you're still not satisfied, there's always the show/BBQ at the Brick House in Ballard with Go Ahead, Pistol for a Paycheck, White Rabbit, Last Action Hero, and Sub Motive (it's also free, and starts at 2 pm).

Hopefully that will be enough to get you through the weekend--if not, just check out the list below for even more shows that I don't have any room to talk about. And if I had any more room left, I'd tell you all about the fabulous show the Dismemberment Plan put on last week at Graceland. It was (sadly) their last all-ages Seattle appearance EVER, and they went out with a bang, taking requests from the crowd the entire night. It was perfect. MEGAN SELING
