For years now, The Round has been gathering local musicians, artists, and poets in the cozy basement of the Fremont Abbey for intimate and entertaining performances. This month's installment, on Tuesday, April 13, will no doubt be one of the greats, with Sean Nelson of Harvey Danger, Jacob James of Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground and Ships, and Alessandra Rose of the Kindness Kind.

James in particular has a huge catalog of material he can draw from—his roster of past and current bands includes the Lashes, Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, and Ships, and he also has his own solo project. So where will Tuesday night's set list come from?

"I'm gonna bust out some brand-new Ships tunes—we just finished our first full-length and are anxiously awaiting the masters," he says. "Then I'll probably play a tune from the Jacob James record I did a while back, a cover or two, and bring out some surprise guests."

I've been waiting to hear the new Ships material for at least a year, but the best part about The Round is always the collaboration that happens between all the artists. It should be pretty fantastic.

In case you've missed any past Rounds (and you probably have, seeing as how there have been almost 60 of them), organizer Nathan Marion has posted several of the series's performances on iTunes for free—you can download over 100 exclusive tracks by Damien Jurado, John Van Deusen of the Lonely Forest, Lesli Wood, Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes, and many, many more. Of course, it's still best to see it all happen in person, by candlelight, in the basement of the Fremont Abbey. Tickets to Tuesday's show are $7 advance/$10 at the door, and the show starts at 8:00 p.m. recommended
