First, I'm so very thankful that Say Hi's Eric Elbogen has finally announced some details regarding the new Say Hi record. It's about goddamn time! All spring long, Elbogen (founder and only permanent member of Say Hi) taunted fans with vague tweets that updated us on the recording process, tallying the days (nearly 200, I believe) or noting which instruments he was working with (Mellotron, glockenspiel, Omnichord). He finally proclaimed the recording finished on May 7 (does knowing that make me a stalker?), but since then, we have heard NOTHING regarding its fate—until now.

Last week, Elbogen announced that the record is called Um, Uh Oh and will be released on Barsuk Records on January 25. He also released the song "Devils," a kicky little number with a bass line that flirts with a 1960s mod vibe and shakers, breathy vocals, and guitar riffs that give off a chilled-out, psychedelic feel. I picture Elbogen playing it while a gaggle of miniskirt-wearing go-go dancers shimmy around him à la Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" video. (Feel free to use that for a video treatment, Eric.)

This Thanksgiving week, I'm also grateful that Damien Jurado has been added to the David Bazan/the Head and the Heart lineup at the Showbox at the Market on Saturday. David Bazan (and band!) with up-and-comers the Head and the Heart would be reason enough to brave the chilly air, but Jurado makes the bill a triple dose of Seattle all-stars.

Jurado's latest record, Saint Bartlett (released earlier this year), is the best record of his career, and that is saying a lot. Jurado has been making music for over a decade and a half, and he's amassed a vast discography of studio albums, EPs, and live recordings. As of press time, tickets are still (shockingly) available for $15. It will be the perfect musical accompaniment to a long weekend full of food and friends. (Or it could be a great excuse to escape the house, should yours be overrun with crazy family members drunk on turkey and wine.) recommended
