FRIDAY 1/21

BARE: AN ENTIRELY A CAPPELLA EVENING

Tonight, local vocalists are completely naked (not literally), performing original material as well as some of their favorite covers without a single note of musical accompaniment. It's bare, you see—completely a cappella. Not one instrument in the whole thing—only beautiful voices reverberating throughout Fremont Abbey's lovely great hall. The lineup includes the charming Sean Nelson of Harvey Danger, Shenandoah Davis (who's operatically trained!), and members of Grand Hallway, the Maldives, Pablo Trucker, among others. Just to make the evening extra cozy, the Abbey will be serving tea, coffee, and chai during intermission. Cute! Fremont Abbey, 8 pm, $12–$15.

THE THERMALS, UNNATURAL HELPERS, WHITE FANG

Unnatural Helpers are the greatest local punk band for anyone suffering from ADD—the majority of the songs on their latest release, Cracked Love & Other Drugs, barely hit the two-minute mark, and they're packed with hooks, fuzzed-out guitars, and bratty lyrics about girls. Neumos, 8 pm, $12.

SATURDAY 1/22

SUPER GEEK LEAGUE

Fact: If you go to this show, you might get hit in the face with a dead fish or get wrapped up in toilet paper by way of homemade toilet-paper guns (which are made out of recycled leaf blowers). YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. El Corazón, 8 pm, $8. recommended
