Without a doubt, 2009 is going to be a year of punk-rock revival. With a new president, a clean slate, and a city full of thriving community spaces and young, radical minds, Seattle's all-ages scene is going be a force to be reckoned with in the New Year! Launching things off right is a January 9 show at Georgetown venue the Mix with inspirational Floridian unit This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb. Touring the world's basements and all-ages venues for over 10 years, the band share a message of civil rights and peace through sing-alongs so infectious one can't help but get caught up in them. Hailing from swampy Pensacola, TBIAPB infuse their wild punk with a touch of down-home, bayou folk that separates them from fellow Floridians Against Me. However, they achieve much the same effect as that band live—smiling kids will crowd-surf and yell till their voices go out as the band pound through their short, poppy songs about the toils (like getting arrested at a protest) and triumphs of living life DIY in America. It's certain to be a sweaty, good time this Saturday and hopefully just a glimpse of an amazing, life-changing year to come! recommended
