Self-proclaimed black-metal purists may deride Wolves in the Throne Room for being too accessible, but when accessible black metal sounds this good, I’ll take it. The vocals are terse and demonic laments from deep in a hellish chasm, but WITTR mix them into the orchestrated maelstrom of sound so expertly that the words are mostly rendered just another sound. Songs sprawl and often bound past the 10-minute mark, and you don’t even notice getting carried away in the wash--you want it to keep going for eternity.
