1

The only mistake the Kavanaugh protestors made was not covering the rear entrace/exit too.

I hope he never feels safe going out in public again for the rest of his life.

2

Those theocratic fascists on the Supreme KKKourt had better get used to a lifetime of restaurant food filled with the staffs' bodily fluids, yeesh.

3

fr Biden...just cancel the student loans and we'll all forget how mediocre you are. good job, you won by not being trump but...what have ya done for me lately?

4

Wouldn't Felon Musk be liable for the difference between the public share trading price (~36/share) and the contracted offer share price (~$54/share)? Thats like $18B. Pay up, dude, your bad.

@1: So much for civility or the concept of "safe spaces".

7

@6,

You can thank Brett Kavanaugh for abandoning civility when he made the decision to force women to birth children against their will.

8

Biden definitely needs to step aside and let someone else be the candidate. We don't need any more elderly white men as president. We need someone young, someone progressive, someone willing to do what needs to be done and not just worry about their chances at being re-elected. Joe only won because the majority of the country wanted Trump out of office. Joe Biden has not delivered on the promises made to the people who put him in office - namely women and Black women especially. And his only response to the overturn of Roe v. Wade has been to tell people to vote (the actions he has taken other than that have been due to non-stop pressure from people to DO SOMETHING FOR FFS)! He needs to go. As does every sitting member of Congress. Enough bullshit already. Millennials and the younger generations have made it clear they hate everyone for destroying their world and not using their pronouns, so how about they run for office and try to rule the world for awhile.

9

@7: Civility is all about behavior and interactions. Civility is not exclusive of bad rulings and decisions. Heed the words of mayor Pete to not engage "violence, harassment, or intimidation." Ambushing Justice Kavanaugh and his family at the rear entrance of a restaurant is two or all three of those transgressions.

10

@6 there is no legal, moral, or ethical obligation to be civil to abject evil.

And besides, the protestors limiting their actions to protest only is already waaaaaaay more civility than that person deserves.

12

AOC would win, but she's not 35 yet.

Plus it would make the ultra-right's heads explode.

13

@8/11 out of curiousity other than Biden who do you think could win. The other front runners at this point appear to be the usual suspects. Bernie, Warren, Kamala and even Hillary seems to be toying with the idea. I honestly don’t think any of them would beat Trump much less someone like Desantis. There’s still a long way to go but it seems like a big gap right now.

14

@12 AOC would not make it out of the primary’s. Aside from the fact no one has ever jumped from the house to the presidency (usually senator or governors are the best bet) she is more of a media creation than anything else. She will probably have that seat for life if she wants it but I doubt she could win a statewide race much less a National one.

15

Six theocrats on the SCOTUS just eliminated the right to privacy in this country and they have the nerve to be SHOCKED when they suddenly discover this applies as much to them as it does those they so obviously hold in contempt (namely, any human with a functional uterus.)

Fuck the lot of them - AND their bootlicking sycophants. May none of them ever know a moment's peace and quiet outside the confines of a gated enclave where, with any luck, they'll remain sequestered until all of them die in a state of drooling senility, or better still, of some excruciating sexually-transmitted disease.

1stly, Biden got handed a pile of shit by President Narcissist and doesn't have a magic wand. He's got a Manchin wand, which is infinitely inferior. He's cancelled and cancelled Student Loans every chance he's had, but y'all never seem to notice. Did you at least notice your stimulus checks? Kyle Rittenhouse did.

2ndly, if not Biden, then it will be Gov. Newsom. Sorry, I know, another White Man, but VP Harris lacks charisma. Newsom's biggest baggage is that he fucked Kimberly Guilfoyle.

17

@4, the Tesla share price is down to $34 this morning, well below the $54.20 price (420 - geddit?) in the purchase agreement. https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1418091/000119312522120474/d310843ddefa14a.htm

The Twits should negotiate a $5B breakup fee, with a GTFO-and-don't-ever-come-back clause; but if they don't enforce the original deal, their shareholders will have them for breakfast.

19

I recommend graveyards at midnight, @18.

20

After all the accolades for the current treasury secretary nailing it, some just didn't get it.

21

@20 I think like most things nowadays when it's happening to your candidate its protesting but when it's happening to my candidate its harassment. I admit I always do find those paradoxes somewhat amusing as people argue both sides of the equation depending on who is being impacted.

22

Kavanaugh was hardly harassed. People protested, as is their right per the First Amendment (or has SCOTUS made that one null and void, too?) and Kavanaugh didn't see the protesters or interact with them. He went out back the door like a rat. Actions have consequences. Overturning Roe v. Wade is extremely unpopular (go figure, taking away the human rights of over 50% of the population in this country upsets people) and the people who made that decision have to deal with it. They are on the SCOTUS because of Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump, and their lies under oath to members of congress. Kavanaugh's right to eat in a restaurant without protesters being outside that restaurant (as he and the restaurant have whined about since the incident) pales in comparison to the fact that the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade will enslave millions of girls and women forced to give birth or go to prison if their fetus is miscarried or aborted (or what else? dies in a car accident)? There is no right to privacy, the overturn of Roe v. Wade took that away. No right to privacy whatsoever. And those compromised, corrupt, and criminal justices on the court have no right to any peace until the day they die.

24

@8 & @22 xina, @12 Will in Seattle, and @15 COMTE for the group WIN!
Bravo and kudos---you all three summed it up beautifully. :)

@12: I like your thinking! AOC 2024! :)

@16 Max Solomon: Point taken on stimulus checks. 2021 was a disappointing year.

25

@20 s/b transportation secretary. @21 - indeed, drives me crazy.

@22: As Buttigieg said, protesting outside the restaurant is fine. And I would be among those protesters actually if I was in DC. But ambushing his family exiting the back is indeed threatening, intimidating, and potentially violent. If you were his wife or kid, would you not want to exit in safety? "Like a rat." - please.

One can be justifiably hyper-angry about something and still be a responsible and reasonable member of society. However, the only valid reason you would cross that threshold is for a complete and total revolution against the government of the United States.

27

I’m up there – age-wise – along with Joe, and I’ve been the recipient of judgements and decisions based on ageism for probably the last twenty years or so. And it's a drag. So, I feel myself unravel a bit when I admit that I can’t see myself supporting President Biden in a presidential primary election because he’d too…..old. Thank you, Mr. President, for all you’ve done to see us through the recent past. We love you for that. But President of the United States is a very, very taxing job and requires physical and mental agility. Mr. Biden will be 82 on Inauguration Day 2025. True, Kamala would be able to step right in, but should I support him thinking he will die in office?

Bravo to the companies stepping up to the plate on a woman’s right to choose, of course, but this benefit…how’s that going to work exactly? Will it be a reimbursement thing where one would have to submit receipts and such? Because I know a lot of women who can’t afford a $1200 weekend away upfront. And if HR cuts you a check beforehand, how many people are going to know that you are pregnant and that you are getting or have gotten an abortion? How many people will you have to talk to? Who has to know? Will there be records kept? It’s helpful to offer this to employees, but not as helpful as having the right to privately choose.

Sodomy. That’s funny.

28

Another thing...about Elon Musk. Was talking to an acquaintance about his now nine children - two sets of twins and one set of triplets included. I was kinda horrified like I am by Mormons with mini-cities of children. I was saying it was time for the Big Snip. But of course Musk won't do that because he thinks he's the kind that SHOULD be procreating, Ayn Rand nonsense,

So my acquaintance said, "Well, he can afford them," as if that's justification. Being able to afford children is very important in the consideration process to be sure, but what about Mother Earth? What about all those shitty, plastic disposable diapers floating in our oceans or in rotting in landfills?

He can afford them?

29

@28: mother earth will be OK if musk has 9 - the US is barely replacing it's population as it is.

to me the bigger problem is that he will hardly raise them because he's an emotionless weirdo. don't have them if you don't want to be an actual dad.

and yes, i know that many "pregnant people" don't want "impregnating people" to be part of the parenting anymore.

31

@26: Don't look at me, MAGA troll, I'm a white cis female over 50 and I voted for Hillary in 2016. I'd do it again.
If you voted twice for the Orange Turd or even once in 2016 it is YOU and your willfully misinformed ilk who should be ashamed, not I.

32

@31 - I think @26's real complaint is not the voting records but the non-voting records. All the assholes who stayed home because the Dems didn't nominate Bernie or Jill fucking Stein or whoever, or because they "didn't like" Hillary are the problem.

33

@30:

Obama didn't run as a progressive - he ran as a very-slightly-to-the-left-of-center liberal. Most of the politicians who rate a "progressive" description in the U.S. wouldn't be considered much more to the left than Obama, compared to actual progressives in other countries, including Sanders and Warren, whose overall positions barely move them off the center of the political compass.

@28 Bauhaus I: I share your outrage. Shit like this is Reason #2 why I finally had a bilateral hysterectomy in 2020 (Reason #1 is that it was a much needed corrective procedure that mercifully ended 43 years of senseless monthly misery that put my physiological health at risk. Because of the risk factor and other reasons I opted to never have children). At least I won't be contributing to the overpopulation of humans that is rapidly destroying the Earth.
There are too many reckless crazies already having too many kids and who could care less. This is all because if they're wealthy they have too much money, too many toys, too much space, and too many hours each day sitting idly bored. Either that or they're dirt poor opportunists like Nadya Suleman, (a.k.a. : "Octomom", mother of 14 kids, including a set of octuplets born in 2009) with absolutely no means to support a family but go for fame and big bucks from TV talk show interviews and / or other forms of social media on why they're multiplying like rabbits.

35

@26 Tom in ID: If what dvs99 suggested in comment @31 is what you meant, then I sincerely owe you an apology.
If so, I apologize for misreading your comment @26.
I'm well aware that a lot of people who could have voted for Hillary Clinton, the Democratic candidate in 2016 copped out. Fortunately I'm not one of them.

@32 dvs99: Thank you for making some valid points. When I initially I read @26 all I saw was "Bernie Bros and white women who didn't like Hillary, blah, blah, blah". It felt like an unfair statement was being made of white women over age 50 and Boomers in general.

37

@36: More likely because the centrist position is often the best one.

38

@36, I lean toward greed-see the life he'd been living since the end of his presidency--Martha's Vineyard estate, multi-million dollar book deals, netflix deal. Just manage sh*t, keep people pacified with your gift for palliative, yet empty, public speaking, and you'll live like a king when your Presidency ends. The convertible ride in Dallas is a factor too.

41

Good picture of the London Trans Parade at the top of this article. I'm sure demonic freaks & flaming drag queens are exactly what's needed to convince hard corps Conservative gun owners to NOT vote for Trump. Great political moves!!

And, yeah, that tweet WAS a perfect answer by Buttigieg!

"Uber’s been a little naughty."
Yeah, back in 2017. SLOG is dumping 5 year old news on us?? After it's already been judged, sentenced & paroled via other news stories???? Great reporting SLOG.

@1, so you didn't think much of Buttigieg's answer, or you didn't watch it?

@2, Those theocratic fascists are arrogant enough to actually believe that they are so majestic & adorable, NO ONE would possible even think of adulterating their food. (That's why they need security people who watch over the prep & plating.)

@3, Biden's still NOT Trump. And so far that's still enough to get him re elected.

@7, So I guess the "When they go low, we go high." thing is out the window?

@8, " Joe Biden has not delivered on the promises made to the people who put him in office - namely women and Black women especially."
Just a little reminder of reality and how little the people who read SLOG know about reality: Biden didn't need women or Black women esp.....THEY NEEDED BIDEN!! What were we....black people, LGBTQ, women, or liberals in general.....going to do?.......vote for Trump? (This is not to discount the votes of women & black women. It's just that their constant cries of how the Dems need them ignore the simple math of the equation.) Just what would another Democrat President with the same Congressional numbers be doing in Biden's place? What would Stacey Abrams, Kamala Harris, Maxine Waters, Val Demings, Ilhan Omar, or Ayanna Pressley be doing right now? THEY'D BE DOING EXACTLY THE SAME THING: Telling people that if they don't show up in 2024 and vote Republicans out and Democrats in, the current situation will just keep on keepin' on.

@9, @11, Amen.

@10, "...there is no legal, moral, or ethical obligation to be civil to abject evil."
You're absolutely correct. No doubt about it. Except you're dead right just like the Seattleite who steps out into the street without looking. The law is on their side. And truth is on Your side. But unfortunately it won't get you what you want. Being violent or threatening only makes you look like a crazy and nobody votes for crazies or their candidates. About 52 years ago, I was told something I really, really, really didn't like: Hardworking, middle of the road adult citizens prefer dictatorship to anarchy. I guess they find the predictability of dictatorships preferable to the uncertainty of anarchy. I'm more of a "Give me Liberty, or give me death" type. But while Liberty vs Death might win revolutions, it most certainly loses elections. And we're coming up on an election....NOT a revolution. How about being smart rather than brave for a change? At 73 I still find it next to impossible to be smart & do the smart thing rather than the brave, feel good thing. But you're never too old to learn.

@12, Sorry, AOC would never win the Presidency. Female isn't so bad right now. But when you add in Muslim, colored, progressive, far left, and worse yet....NNNnnnnnnnew York City (Think of the Pace salsa commercial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbp9UrwC-mI ), you'd really get to see just how unimportant are the votes of (@8) "women and Black women especially."

@13, that's why Biden will likely run again. Personally, I don't know why ANYONE would want to be president at 70-80 yrs old. I guess, other than the actual video we see of them, they can pretty much sit in a chair & tell people what to do. But I wouldn't even want to take that much time away from travel & stage shows. Other than being sensible, middle of the road, Biden's main attraction is HE'S NOT SCAREY AS HELL.

@14, Yes.

@15, I agree 100% with that. But it's counter productive for US to be seen inflicting the pain. Vengeance is mine, says the Lord. If you don't like that one, how about Karma, or "What goes around.....". If your enemy gets hit by a falling meteor or a bolt of lightning, or better yet goes bankrupt because they invested in Trump U, that's much more impressive than a hoard of protesters outside a restaurant.

@16, Kimberly Guilfoyle isn't so bad looking. If Newsom used a condom, he should be OK.

@22, All this talk about Kavanaugh's back door gives me the vapors.

@26, true, unfortunately.

@27, "....but should I support him thinking he will die in office?"
I agree. But the only reason I can think of that Biden might want to run again is he's been doing this for so long, and he sees in his soul how desperately important it is, that there's just nothing he'd rather do. I honestly believe Biden would be happy and at peace if he died in office. Personally, I'd rather see him dancing on Trump's grave.

@30, not even close. You've made the same mistake that the black students did at Harvard when they though the Millennium had arrived when Barack became President of the Harvard Law Review: They thought he'd agitate for progressive causes. But he was conciliatory just as he was as President. That's what comes when you don't do your homework before you vote.....yet still, what other vote choice did you have? But if you'd done your homework, at least you wouldn't have been disappointed. And this is another example of why Biden is President: Because a negotiator....a Statesman....is what gets elected. NOT a revolutionary.

@32, yes.

@34, My condolences on your anger. I've accepted that I'll never have children. The acceptance makes life much more pleasant & tranquil rather than being eaten away with hate. But it's your life.

@36, Obama is a product of the Chicago Machine. Michelle's father is deeply in the machine. Having lived for 60ish years in Chicago, anyone who makes it big in the Machine makes my teeth itch. But you really can't call wanting the best for yourself & your family 'Greed'. Now Trump University.....THAT'S greed.

42

MichaelCClayton dear, Michelle Obama's father died in 1991 at the age of 56. He worked for the water department as a pump operator, and suffered from MS. I know that the City of Chicago has a lot of patronage jobs, but it's laughable, extremely naive, and a little sad that he would be considered "deeply in the machine", when he was just a Democratic Party precinct captain. So was my second cousin Pat, and I can assure you she never brokered any deals in smoke-filled rooms.

Sometimes a city worker is just a city worker, and sometimes a Democrat is just a Democrat, even in Chicago.
