If NY AG Letitia James compelled me to testify about years of possible fraud and tax evasion, I'd look constipated too. Brandon Bell | Getty

Trump also grabbed the translator's notes from his mano a mano with Vlad. And Maggie Haberman is no gossip columnist.

"Seems totally above board and not at all like further evidence that big moneyed interests undermined transformative criminal justice reform."

That's some spin, considering Chesa Boudin's policies were impractical and extreme for most San Franciscans. Maybe in some future communal homogeneous society, he an Nicole Thomas-Kennedy can implement their ideas effectively.

7

Isn't District 3 largely a suburb of Portland? Are they really going to elect a Proud Boy to Congress?

8

The reason Ilhan's supporters aren't worried is that she did almost zero primary campaigning, her opponent had a ton of last-minute PAC money and her general challenger has a snowball's chance given how beloved she is by the public in her district.

I have lived a long time, and a lot of it has been one helluva fun ride. Never, but never did I ever conceive that I’d spend my autumnal years witnessing a con man (not just a forked-tongued, slick politician – we’ve had a few of those, but a real, certified sleaze-grifter) serve as President of the United States. And now? I’m watching a huge part of the country that I love support his probable candidacy for a return engagement while the Feds are scouring his very posh home for stolen government documents – and he’s trying to make us all believe that HE’S the victim.

It's a different world than I ever knew, kids. Higher ground, indeed.

11

@7: yes, and yes. unless Herrera-Buetler endorses the Dem candidate, and maybe not even then.

13

@7, 11,

That district is freaking gigantic. Vancouver's essentially a suburb, though has always been regarded as pretty staunchly conservative, even as it's tilting significantly more progressive lately. But the district stretches all the way from the southwest coast to south central Washington, the vast majority of which is pretty hardcore MAGA territory. I know several people from Battle Ground and Camas, and they're freaking dolts.

14

@13:

About half my family lives in that district and many of them are hard-core MAGAts. Fortunately, almost none of them actually vote.

Trump lost by over seven million votes last time. IF he runs (if he's not in prison or dead), he will not win. And he and his Republican minions can scream all they want about the FBI and this "political theater." They are old men screaming at clouds. Trump made removing classified documents from the White House a FELONY (in 2018 when he signed that into law). Trump appointed the FBI director that executed the search of Mar-a-Lago (after using the FBI to take down Hillary Clinton with trumped up charges - pun intended). Trump won't show the warrant because it details his crimes.

Trump pleaded the 5th today in NYS because he knows he's guilty as hell. Trump voters have died from COVID in huge numbers. Trump terrorists from 1/6 who are in prison will not be able to vote in the 2022 or 2024 elections (depending on what their woefully inadequate sentences are). Trump cannot afford to pay for a lawyer to defend him and at some point the RNC WILL cut him off because he's a pig at the trough that will never stop (they've already threatened to cut him off if he runs for president again).

Why we all have to live through this shit show is beyond me. The motherfucker should have been arrested, prosecuted, and imprisoned already. All of the Republicans in congress and otherwise that aided and abetted his attempted coup and refused to acknowledge Joe Biden's win of the presidential election should also have been arrested, prosecuted, and imprisoned already. Apparently the so-called justice system only works efficiently and swiftly and severely when Black people and/or poor people have committed the crimes. Having to listen to the garbage these shit bags barf up every single day (and why the mainstream media gives them the platform???) is exhausting and demoralizing. The only bright side is that Trump will actually be held accountable, one way or another, for the first time in his miserable, hate filled, stupid life and then he will die.

The bigger problem is all of the psychophants who have their tongues so far up Trump's ass right now. How much of his cult are we going to have to contend with (and for how long) after he is body is in a land fill?

17

Yes, but now the "so-called justice system" has been rifling through drawers, safes, dressing rooms, Melania's wardrobe most efficiently, severely, and swiftly at Mar-a-Lago!

And they ain't poor or black.

18

@12 couldn't you say that about almost any campaign? How insidious is it for unions to support the candidacy of members of the city council who then pass legislation beneficial to their members? For that matter how about Soros pouring money from his PAC into these progressive campaigns to support his view of how criminal justice should be served? Even worse how about the DNC funding MAGA candidates in primary on the hopes voters will elect the Dem candidate in the general. Any outside money in politics comes with an agenda and if you think you're money is better than the other guys are you delusional.

As for Boudin he misled voters during his candidacy. Like Seattle, voters in San Fran support a compassionate approach to justice however when you completely abandon those who are actually being victimized by these perpetrators and skew criminal justice so that only the views of the accused are being represented than you are not doing your job. Boudin lost the support of the Asian community when they were continually being victimized last year both personally and in their business and he ignored their pleas. Seattle voters similarly rejected the same philosophy when they voted against NKT this last fall (its not lost on me that the writer of the SLOG this morning was her spokesperson so he is perhaps a tad biased in his reporting). There was no mysterious dark money in Seattle, the truth is voters do not support these policies.

@13 No one lives in Battle Ground or Camas. Vancouver has 140,000 more people than both those shitholes combined. I’ll be throwing some money at MGP. A Proud Boy repping our state is unacceptable.

20

@10 Bauhaus I, @13 mike blob, and @14 COMTE: Although I have no known relatives living in Clark County or Washington's vast Southwestern-fried 3rd District, I feel your pain.

@16 xina for the WIN!!!

@19 DOUG: Agreed. Any Proud Boy misrepresenting our state is indeed unacceptable. We up here in Whatcom County have been grossly misrepresented by the late Doug the Thug Ericksen, R,--Ferndale, 42nd District for far too many years until the corrupt, grinning MAGA pigfucker finally dropped dead of COVID (at least we had SOME good news to savor over Christmas 2021). Nobody of sound mind misses his sorry ass. Joe Kent is equally reprehensible Orange Turd pond scum. Go, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, GO!!
Hopefully, as Max Solomon @11 suggests, Jaime Herrera Beutler can endorse her campaign. The recent primary election only shows that voters in the 3rd District really have their heads up their asses.

21

It is long overdue for the Orange Turd to roast in the Hell Fred and Mary Anne MacCleod Trump created, whether it "pleads the Fifth" or not. Enough with this media overhyped bullshit!
Don't just lock this pigfucker up, NY AG, Letitia James, hang it by its limp lil shroom, stick a fork in its ass, and let the world finally be DONE with it already!

Just imagine what a utopian world we could have had if Fred and Mary Anne were both sterile.

@17. I really don't care do u
