If I was that wife of the husband who died on the cruise ship, I wouldn't sue. Mistakes happen. I wouldn't want the memory of my husband ruined by that macabre event the world got to see.

Could DeSantis have a Tokyo Vomiting Incident? Please?

10

@2 - An optimistic view would be that perhaps Tucker resigned because Rupert wouldn't issue a public apology in the Dominion case.

13

RIP man with pink stuffed animal. What a sad way to end it.

14

@12 you forgot the most important item. Why I take too much cocaine and malt liquor - late stage capitalism.

16

@11 - Lemon deserved to be fired, that pugnacious little twit. Made guests and fellow anchors cringe and ill-at-ease on multiple occasions. The last straw was probably his terribly rude cutting off of Vivek Ramaswamy.

@12 - also: Late stage abortions - Late term capitalism

@9: FTW - I'm sure auntie g will confirm.

17

I hope they took some of the Dominion settlement money out of Carlson's severance package. He'll probably land on his feet, though - at RT.

18

Idk where y'all hang out, but whenever I hear someone talking about "late stage capitalism" it is always directly related to businesses screwing people over in ways that are unsustainable. There are legitimate critiques of the idea, but "people just throw that word around for anything they don't like" isn't really one of them.

20

@18,

Yeah, and @4's invocation of the phrase in reference to a giant corporation going into financial distress shortly after buying back $1 billion worth of stock seem pretty apt.

22

I take "late stage capitalism" to refer to ways of making money that don't produce any real value. Everything from hostile takeovers to exotic fintech, the unifying feature is there is no end benefit to consumers, only to the holders of capital.

This is distinct from the Adam Smith conception of capitalism -- early stage capitalism? -- as something that creates goods for purchase. There's no better mousetrap being built here, just fancier and fancier games of three-card monte. A company diverting its own profits into buying its own stock may make the shareholders on the board happy, but does nothing to help the company get its goods to market; as we can see from the BBB example it may even impede that.

23

It’s okay to admit you don’t understand what something means, Trollflake.

And no. That’s not even what cronyism is.

The fact is a properly governed hybrid market-socialized system would regulate private capital’s ability to buy influence. It pure market fetishism that creates cronyism. Like we see with your buddy the corrupt Justice Thomas. There are no mechanisms to regulate his corruption because those laws and norms were defanged by the billionaires.

You understand most other of these eeeeeevil social democracies in Western Europe have (slightly) more robust regulations on influence peddling and lobbying. No. Of course you don’t.

25

@26: Well, if you could have a martini with either George Soros or Harlan Crow - you'd pick George. Progressives and Dems (heart) billionaires on the lefty side. So don't be a hypocrite.

28

@4 & @6 kristofarian: Between late stage capitalism and RepubliKKKans running in 2024, I share Swamp Thing's ugh (@8) on The Orange Turd & Tucker Carlson 2024.
You can just rock me to sleep tonight. :o

@9 dvs99 for the WIN!! I wanna see the film at 11. ;)

@13 Max Solomon: Agreed. That is indeed, sad about the man and his pink stuffed animal.
What a horrible way to go. Rest in peace.

@16: FTW confirmed. And congrats on beating me to it, raindrop dear. :)

@26 kristofarian: EEK! I'd rather that when our time was up that my beloved VW and just went quietly. :o
Catalina nailed it: RepubliKKKans are horrible excuses for people. :(

29

WOW. Like I need any more reasons not to go on cruises.

30

Since the Satanists are in Boston this weekend, maybe they can put a curse on those damn Yankees!

31

@9 FTW!!!
Bushuru II !

32

@30 & @31 pat L: Hear, hear!

34
  1. I dunno, I thought "businesses screwing people over in ways that are unsustainable" was the most unintentionally funny thing I've read in a while. Remember. If you must screw people over...
35

@27 actually my brother did. We all laughed at him for doing that with George, such a sucker ...
