Remember the 2016 (almost) matchup of Jeb! vs Hillary a matchup where both candidates inspired zero enthusiasm?
We have learned nothing since then.

3

"Blood on their hands"

Who said that?

Donald Trump? No
Tucker Carlson? No
Marjorie Taylor Greene? No

Even they don't go that low.

4

As a homeowner already paying almost $7k a year in property taxes, it's gonna be a hard REJECT from me, dawg. Let's audit the King County budget and figure out where all my fucking money is going in the first place.

And Jesus H. Christ can we stop letting septuagenarians and octogenarians run for political positions of power? Biden doesn't know where he is half the time and Trump very obviously has some sort of cognitive issues. But sure, let's keep letting the Boomers ruin everything.

5

@1 -- good Lord! is Smolderin'

How many times and places do we need to be told that water is cold in Spring? Idiots are going to FAFO regardless.

Biden is objectively the best President of my lifetime. He beat an incumbent (an asshole, but still, an incumbent), and after a lifetime in the Senate and 8 years in the WH, he knows how shit works. Shit got done last Congress.

If his mind or body goes south, well, he's not a Republic. He'll do the right thing.

8

@4: Biden isn't a Boomer: '42. Ex-President Asshole has narcissistic personality disorder, not a cognitive issue. He actually is a Boomer.

Stop "letting" Olds run? What, you want to pass a law?

9

@5
Yes, mr kristo I certainly get that-
but the dems have much more than Feinstein, Biden, and other leaders who are old enough they can barely chew applesauce.
In a nation with so much wealth and talent, it’s shaping up to be another “Jesus, do I have to choose between these two”?
And knowing how insipid the Dems are, they will stick with uninspiring Harris as VP, instead of say - one if the Castro brothers, or someone who doesn’t inspire longings for euthanasia.

Biden has been a great president. Everyone here should be god damned ecstatic to vote for him again.

15

Just voted.

Biden is cool.

Harry is cool, and he'll be missed, apparently I had met him when I was 3 and then later on in Seattle a few times. A good guy.

16

@11 "If Biden had a competent VP"

So which of her job duties is she not competent in? 1) Hanging out waiting for the president to die/be incapacitated or 2) casting tie breaking votes in the Senate?

Because she is doing both of those things, competently. And those are her only job duties per the constitution you love.

My guess is your grievance regards something else about her. Hmm.

18

@11: W was "competent" as POTUS, showing that the job can be done poorly by a mediocrity, and the ship of state still trundled along. Even President Asshole, who was an incompetent clown, couldn't steer it into an iceberg.

I think Harris could pull it off. You just don't like her affect, which is weird at times.

@3 Oh my sweet summer child, have you no Google?
Trump campaign ad: "Democrats are complicit in murder" https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-campaign-ad-democrats-complicit-murders-committed-undocumented/story?id=52491528

Tucker Carlson [speaking of supporting Ukraine against Russian invasion]: "These people and a great deal of the GOP leadership will have blood on their hands." https://www.newsweek.com/tucker-carlson-russia-alexander-vindman-fox-news-tuckyrose-1703754

MtG [referring to Democrats after 1/6]: "Those who stoke insurrection [and] spread conspiracies have blood on their hands" https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/marjorie-taylor-greene-and-aoc-b1847795.html

and a bonus:
Mo Brooks: Democrats have American blood on their hands https://politicalwire.com/2018/12/31/gop-lawmaker-says-democrats-have-blood-on-their-hands/

23

@18 - Of course she could pull it off, perhaps a bit better than Dan Quayle or Sarah Palin had they been thrust into the Oval. But America deserves and needs much better. She's only VP because she's a politician of color and female (woke criteria). She bombed in the 2020 primary as you recall.

@19 - Stand corrected on MTG, but not for Donald as you can't extrapolate a campaign add into a direct quote and regarding Tucker it was Alexander Vindman who said "blood on your hands". You were in a hurry and a little rattled before posting, I understand.

24

oops - @23 para 2 refers to 21.

25

When Trump was president, we had a crisis that kept us glued to the news and our smartphones because he was literally breaking shit and causing chaos each day. The fact that we've been able to sustain our country after that shitshow is nothing short of a miracle. Biden has had some blunders, and he hasn't really accomplished a TON compared to like Obama, but the dude has unified Europe against Russian and managed to keep them in the fight and the world out of nuclear war at the same time, which nobody thought would be possible in this sort of situation years ago.

The thing is, I can sleep at night with Biden at the helm. He's old, but his team is rock solid in their competence, and even if Kamala is uninspiring as an orator (in my opinion, at least), she is a good at her role behind the scenes. I don't have to think about it. I don't have to worry about it. I know that progress is being made and we're not backsliding into chaos so long as we stay the course with our coalition of people who just want at the very least not to have to panic every day when these fuckers start monkeying at the controls of the entire world.

26

I can't wait for the inevitable pedestrian death count statistics for the "Little Crossing Over Place" memorial waterfront freeway

29

@28 "Middle class voters are going to eat that up" -- unless they value making their own medical decisions and/or value democracy

31

@26: your cynicism is unwarranted. have you been down to the waterfront to see it? the Alaskan remodel isn't going to lead to a large pedestrian death count, FFS. it was designed with pedestrian safety in mind.

plus, it won't be full of homelss/junkies crossing mid-block in the rain at night wearing black with cars going 50 mph (i.e. Aurora).

32

@30 - sorry, it took a minute to reply as the rabid censors here will delete any post / account they disagree with, even one so clearly not in violation of the terms of service. (For example: showing support for a few bills in the Montana House.)

Anyhow, I wasn't trying to convince you on DeSantis. Just sharing my opinion. But keep in mind he won women by 8 points and independents by 18 points in his last election, so those demographics are not a concern. It's actually the base, who is completely infatuated with Trump where DeSantis has his polling issues. No matter, they'll come around to support him if he wins the nomination.

33

Rest in peace, Harry Belafonte. You're right, Ashley. Now I can't get Day-o out of my head. I feel like watching Beetlejuice tonight.

@11 raindrop dear, your insanely dystopian phobia of competent, well educated women is so Dark Ages Trumpist. Give it a rest.

@14 RogertheShrubber, @15 Will in Seattle, @7 & @18 Max Solomon, and @25 Garb Garblar: +5 for the WIN! AMEN!

@16 Brent Gumbo: BINGO.

34

@23 What part of the "I approved this message" statement at the end of the ad do you not get? If it's in the Donald's campaign ads and wasn't disavowed (and it wasn't), then he approved the message. So what are you going to believe, the voices in your head saying he didn't agree, or your lying ears? Before you try, it was his actual campaign that released the ad, not a superpac operating on his behalf.

I stand corrected on Tucker. He did a slightly better job of choosing his words than he did with Dominion. See, it's not so hard for an adult to admit that they were wrong.

36

Yeah, Biden's been pretty great all in all. Personally I think he's the perfect man to lead us out of this late stage capitalism quagmire we're currently mired in.

40

I will vote for Biden but I am not happy about it. Joe is a fucking asshole for running again. It's his goddamn ego. PEOPLE DO NOT WANT BIDEN OR TRUMP TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT. But who the fuck cares about what the people want, right? It's not like the government works for us anyway, it's here to serve the billionaires and corporations.

This country is a fucking dumpster fire that will never be put out.

Maybe we'll get lucky and I'll get to live see the first Black woman as POTUS.

42

@40 xina: Like you, I would LOVE to see a woman in the White House as POTUS in my lifetime---as long as it isn't Marjorie Taylor Greene, Krysten Sinema, or Lauren Boebert.

43

The old that is strong does not wither. Joe has proven himself able to handle the burden of the presidency even in his advanced age. Many of our senior peers are still highly productive and dependable even into their 80s and beyond, and they should be respected for as long as they are fit to serve voluntarily for the greater good. I'm a Bernie supporter, after all, and his age does not diminish my support for his fitness as a candidate either.

44

The DNC isn't going to hold primary debates. Terrible look for the democrat party.

46

@45: It's still way early though, kinda authoritarian to close the doors on the debates now.

Thank you for the copy edit.

48

Biden - such a good candidate, no one will be permitted to debate him!

Colossal inflation, a total inability to stop the human trafficking of millions over the border, on the brink of war with Russia and China, psychotic gas prices, absurd interest rates, record setting drug deaths, exploding homelessness, and given population growth not a single net new job created since pre-pandemic levels - by nearly every measure, Americans have never been worse off than the Biden presidency. Nothing is more ominous as well as having Harris, a stupendously unpopular incompetent who has never accomplished anything in her life, a step away from the top job, held back only by the lingering life of a man who visibly barely knows where he is.

The Democrats are in a fantasy world as to the state of the country outside their wealthy bubbles, and another Trump term has never been more likely.

49

@48 Biden is soooo unpopular he can't win! His approval rating is in the 40's! Him running guarantees victory for ... the guy whose approval rating is regularly in the 30's.

50

@47,

Much as it pains me to agree with raindrop, I do have to wonder why they went and made the announcement when they did. I'd hope you're right that if a serious challenger emerged they'd reconsider, but then that'd be a bit of a gaffe. Not a big deal by any stretch, but also kinda a head scratcher IMHO.
