"Witnesses say the shooting began out of an argument involving several people."

I have little doubt it was young men who pulled out the guns and shot randomly into a crowd.

2

I actually took a streetcar this weekend, it was nice.

You should try the West Seattle water ferry too, it's a great time.

"But the court allowed city prosecutors to resolve cases faster. Davison's move may drown her prosecutors in cases."

Typical Republican strategy: break government then bleat about how government is broken

@3
I know right.
The unchecked power wielded by republicans in Washington state, especially King County is out of control.

7

Streetcars: “I'm on board. Not literally, of course. I would never take a streetcar. I have places to be.”

Exactly. Streetcars are the least effective transit system, and a horrible ROI.

8

@7 well, other than private cars driven on highways hundreds of miles for a daily commute into a city. Those are worse.

You have to support postal workers. Their roles have changed over the past several years, but it’s still a necessary function, a lot of drudgery and boredom, and a mostly thankless chore.

When I first moved into my present residence, my mailperson was a middle-aged, Asian-American woman who was at once both all business and helpful and friendly. She retired last year after 20 years or more of service and with back problems. How that small woman manhandled heavy boxes of mail and circulars, climbing stairs delivering bulky packages, offering curious canines treats, all day long for 20 years moves me - pretty damn impressive!

We went through a few replacements before someone was assigned the route permanently. She’s younger, has a different vibe, and unless I’m mistaken, has a different take on what her role is. For one thing, walking down the street, sorting the mail for the next block, climbing the stairs up to my building, putting the mail in the boxes – not once is she not on her phone. And when both hands are needed for the task-at-hand, she does the jaw-shoulder thing. I’ve never seen her drop the phone once. If I have to ask her a question, which is rare, I have to wave my arms to get her attention. It’s a different type of service, but at least she puts the mail in the right boxes.

Oh. Another thing. They mostly don’t wear USPS uniforms anymore. Not even those shorts with the stripes down the sides. Their jobs have become a dangerous occupation of late, which is a testament to our times of sad decay. In Los Angeles, you can’t go a week without hearing about a postman getting stabbed or shot and his vehicle with its mail and packages being stolen. Kids, you’re going to have to do something about this before you find yourself completely on the set of “Blade Runner.”

The decision gives the Purdue Pharma owners long-sought protection, but it will release billions of dollars from their fortune to states and communities to help cope with the costs of addiction.

"Not a weird time to mention Echo Glenn's 2021 PREA report showing two cases of staff sexual misconduct against youth."

Is the implication here that these "youths" escaped to avoid being molested? That seems like a weird, far fetched conclusion since there is ZERO evidence to link the two things. What else could have been mentioned I wonder? Maybe the fact they brutally assaulted a female employee during their escape, or that they stole her car after assaulting her or maybe that these youths were incarcerated for possession of a firearm, robbery, assault and murder. I guess those didn't fit the narrative Ashley was trying to paint for us that youths should never be incarcerated regardless of what they did.

Btw fun fact, did you know that KC courts no longer refer to victims as victims? They are now persons that were affected, as in "the person that was affected by murder" (sigh)

@10
Why do I have to support postal workers?
Since the advent of the internet and digital communication, they have become increasingly irrelevant. They don’t provide a service that can’t be found elsewhere.

@Axman:
