I see this assassin has expressed anti-fascist sentiments. The bitter irony is that it is difficult to imagine an act one individual could perform which will do more to promote fascism. Either this guy is a cunning master of deception who has singlehandedly managed to bring industrial-grade disinformation tactics outside the cozy confines of cyberspace, or he is a complete idiot who doesn't realize how counterproductive (to put it charitably) his heinous act was.

Considering Hanlon's razor, you have to assume it's the latter. Hanlon's razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

2

Following up my comment @1 regarding the "cunning master of deception" scenario. The term that comes to mind is false-flag operation. Think the Reichstag fire or the 1999 Russian apartment bombings that gave Putin the excuse to launch the war in Chechnya and begin his consolidation of power. I can't think of any assassinations in history which were proved to be false-flag operations. What am I missing?

3

Nothing codes "radical left" more than a sharpshooter in a Dodge Challenger.

4

No matter the shooter's ideology, nothing is more counterproductive and dangerous than the scapegoating torrent of demagoguery being vomited up by Trump and the far right agitators who are casting all "leftists" as responsible for this murder. They are foaming at the mouth to enact even more extremist policies by using Kirk's lone wolf assassin as an excuse.

People who want common sense gun control do not want gun violence.

The 2nd amendment has necessary limits. You cannot make pipe bombs and poison gas as arms. Every freedom without regulation and responsibility is the state of nature and chaos. All freedoms must be continuously perfected for the many by ensuring that those who are free exercise their liberties with mutual respect for their fellow human being. Unlimited and unregulated sale of firearms is what gets weapons in the hands of insane vigilantes, school shooters, gangs, children, and cartels. Freedom is not free, with great power comes great responsibility. Negligence and stupidity are not freedom.

@7. A great hymn of those heroes who resisted fascism under Mussolini and supported our WW2 vets. A great deal of Americans and Canadians are buried there who fought against the fascists. I prefer E io ero Sandokan.

Despite shell casings with engravings, more telling and ironic is that he used a WW2 Mauser Nazi infantry rifle. What conclusions can we jump to from that?

10

@9 - the most likely conclusion is that they are quality rifles and thousands of them were imported into the USA after WW2.

Ever driven or rode in a Volkswagen?

https://www.patriciarobertsmiller.com/2025/09/12/seeds-over-a-wall/

A lot of people are saying that the murder of Kirk was a false flag. They are also saying that the Reichstag fire was a false flag.

That way of talking about Kirk’s murder helps pro-Trump fascism.

What matters is not whether Kirk’s murder or the Reichstag fire were false flags.

What matters is that pro-Trump figures are treating the murder of Kirk differently from how they treated the murder of Melissa Hortman. They are saying that only the murder of in-group political figures matter. They’re fine with murders of out-group political figures.

They are admitting that they do not believe that they should treat others as they would have done unto them.

Don’t focus on the question of false flag. Focus on the open authoritarianism and rejection of Jesus in their treatment of different kinds of political murder.

If you have Trump supporters in your SM world, point that out to them at every opportunity.

12

@10. Why would the shell casings matter but the rifle be happenstance for a planned assassination?

The last 5-10 years in this country have been extremely destabilizing and that is being felt the hardest by young people, so they’re likely to be radicalized in ways that are inscrutable to those of us who grew up when a middle class lifestyle was attainable with a little hard work. Plus there is so much “content” now, often with messaging not anchored in reality. If you’re dealing with someone who is capable of murder you’re already well outside mainstream thinking so it’s unlikely his motives will make sense without hearing it directly from his mouth.

21

Was there obvious anti fascist stuff on the casings? Sure. There are also pics of him dressed as Pepe the Frog for Halloween, dressed in a trump costume for halloween (with his little brother dressed as a sniper or something next to him) and screenshots of his donations to Trump and there were also anti-gay meme quotes on one of the casings and a gay joke on the other one.... he was raised by 2 conservatives and trained to shoot from a very early age. Like... 2+2=4. This isn't rocket surgery.

He's probably a little incel groyper based on the meme culture and video game stuff.

22

@15 There are pics of him all over his facebook of him as a very small child holding assault weapons... if you don't think he had his own guns by the time he was 22 you're even more stupid than I thought.

23

21: Nah, he looks too cute to be an incel.

24

@19. Lol no.

But you are arguing a straw man for a double standard. If people are concluding Robinson was a leftist from the shell casings, but not scrutinizing the choice of rifle, then neither follows.

25

@20. Barth has very recently and proudly declared not only his understanding but approval of federal agents being assassinated by private citizens, under the rubric that we are living under a fascist regime.

He routinely demonizes, often in dehumanizing terms, public figures whom he disdains.

He levels personal vitriol, often with violent words, at posters on a near daily basis.

He now expresses joy in a world without Mr. Kirk.

And he, like many posters here, is in firm conviction that his hands are clean when it comes to our anomie and the dire consequences it brings.

TS has been, for some time, a small reflecting pond that both attracts and reflects back the most odious impulses. That neither TS nor its forum denizens can muster the decency to condemn politically motivated violence without qualification is surely evidence that in fact, it is enjoyed and encouraged, often publicly.

Is it galvanizing among you to publicly announce your delight at an assassination? Have you already raised a glass to toast the occasion among friends, as I have personally witnessed on several occasions upon news of the demise of a right-wing figure, often in some busy tony eatery? What do you think this violent act is going to augur for your cause, for your community, for those you claim to care about?

If you are youngish and in understandable confusion and anxiety about the poor state of our nation right now, the worst possible thing you could do is imbibe in the Weimar streetfighter mode espoused by TS and the "Barths" of this forum. You would do yourself and the nation a favor by instead sitting at your screen and watching William F Buckley interview Huey Newton on Firing Line in 1973 (available on Youtube). Mr. Newton had just published his book "Revolutionary Suicide" and led the Panther movement away from pursuing violent revolution. He sat and had a civil conversation with an ideological nemesis. The nation had become exhausted from political violence and this small encounter marked a kind of slow moving Peace of Westphalia, a kind of inheritance now lost, and one that will not be reclaimed from publications such as this.

34

Conservatives love threatening civil war because they’re tough guys with all the guns but whenever there’s a shooting they’re like obviously it’s a blue haired transgender communist who voted for kamala, only to pivot seamlessly to praying for his eternal soul when they find out he’s not. No one will apologize for getting it wrong and no one will learn anything from this experience.

35

33, right on cue one of the guys who was making vague threats of what’s to come, accusing people of delighting in kirk’s death when we’ve all expressed remorse even though we disagreed with him. You guys never disappoint.

36

Don't worry baby kossack, barth can't hurt you.

37

@33 Give it a rest. The only person involved in any of this that ever celebrated shootings is Charlie Kirk. He planted his flag on that hill and then dead on it. None of us are happy he died. But you can't look at the pictures of this kid holding a literal rocket launcher on facebook and his mom holding a machine gun and him posing as Pepe the Frog and not connect the dots here. People like Charlie Kirk literally create people like Tyler. One of them finally just killed someone you like this time instead of a bunch of random little kids you somehow don't give two shits about and now you're mad about it. Good. We've been mad about it for FUCKING YEARS.

38

I don’t even know what federal agents thingy he’s talking about. These people live on another planet.

39

Rep. Nancy Moss Wednesday when we didn't know who the shooter was: "It sounds like the shooter was a tranny or pro-tranny. It's out of control. Enough is enough. Time to bring back the death penalty.

Rep. Nancy Moss today now that we know he's a cis white man: We know Charlie Kirk would want us to pray for such an evil, and lost individual like Tyler Robinson to find Jesus Christ. We will try to do the same.

...uh yeah.

40

@39 exactly! We’ve gone from civil war to prayer circles even though charlie kirk is just as dead as he was yesterday

41

@4,

Indeed. I remember Obama addressing the nation following politically motivated killings, and the emotional, inspiring and non-partisan speeches he gave calling for compassion. He wouldn't even request that we unite or anything so dismissably naïve, but rather to just try to calm down and demonstrate a little compassionate empathy for the victims and those suffering. Such a speech from POTUS right now would go a long way toward bringing some much needed calm to us all, regardless of ideology. Alas.

42

Air Force One = pee tapes.

43

41: Donald did say on Fox and Friends this morning that he reached out to Erika Kirk. So that's nice.

44

@43. Lol. Man, you are really a piece of work with your trolling.

45

All this righteous indignation about insufficient concern about Kirk is pretty rich from the party that mocked the assault on Paul Pelosi.

46

‘How are you holding up over the last three and a half days?” asked one reporter, who’d also wished him condolences for Kirk.

‘“I think very good,” Trump replied. “And by the way, right there you see all the trucks; they just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House. Which is something they’ve been trying to get as you know for about 150 years, and it’s gonna be a beauty, it’ll be an absolutely magnificent structure.

‘“And I just see all the trucks, they just started, so it’ll get done uh very nicely and it’ll be one of the best anywhere in the world, actually,” the president went on.’

He does not give one single flying fuck about a guy who dedicated his life to trump’s reelection now that his death is of no use to him politically. Though to be fair, he may simply be suffering from dementia, or the lingering effects of the stroke that melted half his face (Allegedly!).

49

Nothing says "American democracy in fee fall" like the martyrdom of an avowed racist and homophobe, who claimed that dead children were simply the price one pays for the "freedom" of the second amendment (ironic, no?). White Christian nationalism, extreme xenophobia. He said some Christian-y things, but the sure as fuck didn't live his life that way. He should not have been killed, I don't wish that on anyone, but he sure as fuck shouldn't be canonized by Christians. He was racist garbage, not the second coming of Jeebus.

50

49: "who claimed that dead children were simply the price one pays for the "freedom" of the second amendment (ironic, no?). "

No, Kirk made a logical philosophical observation that the 2nd Amendment comes at a cost of some lives because it's not a complete ban on guns - that nasty lefties extrapolated into sinister propaganda that has you fooled.

51

Charlie Kirk, the conservative founder and president of Turning Point USA, said during an organizational event on Wednesday that gun deaths in exchange for the preservation of Second Amendment rights is part of America's reality.

Kirk's comments come about one week after three children and three adults were killed at the Christian Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee.

"You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won't have a single gun death," Kirk said at a Turning Point USA Faith event on Wednesday, as reported by Media Matters for America. "That is nonsense. It's drivel. But I am—I think it's worth it.

"I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe."

@50, We’re all reading his own words and arriving at our own interpretation without your help so you can kindly shove it up your ass at any time.

If that’s how you choose to take it I’m not surprised because it explains so much about you that we already know, but it’s perfectly reasonable to hear this statement knowing it was in response to a shooting that took the lives 6 people including 3 kids and assume they were at the front of his mind when he said it. Even if they weren’t, it’s not like kids aren’t routinely murdered by people exercising the same constitutional rights he was so grateful for.

https://www.newsweek.com/charlie-kirk-says-gun-deaths-worth-it-2nd-amendment-1793113

52

51: You get vulgar when cornered. Of course you would point to the most leftist rag to support your talking point.

53

You always pout about dirty words when you’ve got nothing left to give but accusing newsweek of being a leftist rag in 2025 is a genuine lol. Unless you want to argue this quote is made up the political leaning of the rag that published it is immaterial anyway. Just give it up already.

54

53: We simply disagree with what Charlie Kirk said. Be an adult and accept that you don't always get your way.

55

I already told you to believe whatever you want. I’ve been asking you to extend the same grace to the rest of us.

56

In that clip in the Newsweek article, Charlie makes the accurate comparison to automobile deaths as the price of liberty to own a car, is analogous to the 2nd amendment to owning a gun.

If the logic is brutal, that's not the fault of the logic.

57

The logic isn’t brutal, it’s fucking idiotic. I can’t drive my gun to work or the hospital because it’s only use is killing, maiming, or terrorizing living things. We also have much more rigid safety regulations for cars and their ownership and operation than guns. I would ask you to try again but i don’t care what you think and will not be moved by anything else you have to say about it. Really, you can let it go at any time.

58

@33: I'm sorry you didn't get your Sulla moment honey. This particular act of political violence wasn't perpetrated by the kind of person you had hoped, and I know that's disappointing, but you need to calm down now.
@56: Cooli you and Nancy Mace should be on a professional Twister team, I swear!

59

57: You drive a car by being a responsible driver, same with guns. Both carry an inherent danger to the owner and to others, but as responsible Americans we accept our responsibilities without the needs for bans on either.

60

53, all that can be true and a reasonable person can also believe charlie kirk thought dead kids are a prudent deal in exchange for people like his own murderer having unrestricted access to guns because he said as much in the immediate aftermath of a school shooting

61

@59 i mean

62

@50 you complete dolt, you just restated what I said (agreeing with it) then said I was "fooled" -- pretty rich.

63

Also, @56, guns = cars is the stupidest shit the right has come up with, but OK: license, registration, insurance, inability to get a license if you don't pass the test or are judged incapable. I mean, sure, guns = cars is the way to go.

64

"Judge not, lest ye be judged" is a directive from Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 7:1) that warns against making hypocritical or condemning judgments of others, emphasizing that the same standard of judgment used on others will be applied to oneself.

65

Antifa Mormon was not on my bingo card

66

I've known a few blue haired transgender communists and they have all been lovely people.

67

@57,

There is no regulation for owning a car. Anyone with money can buy one.

There are regulations (with hand slaps for violations) for operating one on a public roadway.

You can have a record of DUI, and even DUI manslaughter, and legally buy a car. There are no background or even legally required license checks.

Firearms create equality. The 125 pound, 80 year old female has the option of not facing a 25 year old, 200 pound linebacker that has broken into her home in a physical mismatch. She can face him on equal terms with a firearm. In those grave extremes, firearms give the victim an equal chance.

Laws make the use of deadly force lawful in such extremes and firearms put the victim on equal fighting terms with the victimizer.

They also give citizens a fighting chance against those that would involuntarily subjugate them. We have the most powerful military in the world. How did that work out for us when we tried to involuntarily remake Afghan society in our image? Don't get me wrong, I wish the Taliban didn't exist to stone women to death. My point is that armed Afghans got agency they would not have had, first with the Soviets, and then with us. They had no agency against being dictated to absent access to guns.

This society has agency against a Trump (or Progressive) dictatorship, to use or not use, only to the extent it is armed.

The biggest use of firearms? Recreational shooting. 8 billion rounds a year are puchased by civilians. Less than 25k wind up in humans. We sell 13 million autos a year and a similar number of humans are mained by only 13 million of those 4,000 pound projectiles. So which is more benign as a percentage of objects purchased?

I have three of seven households across my alley that don't own a car. Its not a need/want of theirs. I don't judge the 4 of 7 that choose a car (and a $25,000 parking space) with the risk of their indulging that need/want with that projectile.. Likewise with with those of them that choose a firearm. I practice the tolernace for others choices that you only preach.

68

@54: In multiple threads now, you've stated your unsupported opinion of what Charlie Kirk said, as if your unsupported opinion had the status of an actual fact. Also in multiple threads now, one of us liberal types has quoted, with citation -- at length, and in context -- what Charlie Kirk actually said. Do you wonder why you can't simply quote what he said, when we can do so as easily as we do?

@33: Continuing the theme of not quoting anyone, you made numerous assertions about what Barth wrote, without once quoting even one single word that Barth has actually written. Do you wonder why you provided no quote, no URL, no support of any kind whatsoever for your opinions?

You guys can get back to us with actual quotes -- backed up by URLs, of course -- any time you like. Until then, we'll continue to judge your opinions as unfounded, and treat them accordingly.

69

@68,

Here's a thing Kirk said that I somehow haven't seen widely reported amidst everything.

"MLK was awful. He's not a good person."

https://baptistnews.com/article/charlie-kirk-in-his-own-words/

MLK!?!

In deference to Phoebe, I'll reiterate that Kirk didn't deserve to die. But will also note that he was a total and complete piece of human shit while alive. And anyone here defending him may want to grab a roll of toilet paper and take a look in the mirror.

70

@50: "...Kirk made a logical philosophical observation that the 2nd Amendment comes at a cost of some lives because it's not a complete ban on guns..."

Do you actually believe that Kirk's violent death via gunshot helps to protect your liberty? A simple 'yes,' or 'no,' will suffice. Do tell.

71

68: I did reference the exact quote the other day:

"It’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment."

Which simply means:

Unless there's a total gun man, there will be gun deaths every year - but it's worth it. Hell yes it's worth it. Don't you agree?

72

70: No more than a fatal automobile accident helps protects my liberty to drive a car.

73

biped, have you thought about like just going away? Nobody wants you here

74

@71: "Unless there's a total gun man, there will be gun deaths every year..."

Even with a total gun ban, there would still be gun deaths every year. There would just be far, far fewer of them. Charlie Kirk might still be alive. (As might an entire school's worth of children.)

"Hell yes it's worth it. Don't you agree?"

I completely reject every link in the chain of reasoning you and Kirk proclaimed. The Second Amendment clearly protects the right of a "free state" to resist any attempt at disarmament by the newly-formed Federal government. It is not an individual citizen's right, and never was. Two hundred years of American jurisprudence on this point were overturned by a renegade piece of judicial activism, paid for by the gun-makers' lobby. Color me utterly unimpressed.

If the federal government actually becomes tyrannical, no number of gunfondlers could possibly do anything about it, no matter how enthusiastically each one wanked his hard 'piece.' Said government already has everything from rocket-delivered thermonuclear bombs, to flying killer robots. Holed up in your bunker? They've got 2,000# busters. Hiding in the trees? An over-the-horzion missile sets the entire forest ablaze. Flee across the countryside? Drones locate and shoot you, whilst you're looking the other way. The way to prevent federal tyranny is to NOT elect an autocrat. Too bad you recently got that one wrong, as well.

@72: I asked for one word. As you started with 'No," I'll take that as your answer. So he died for no reason. Therefore, how are any of the many many many other gun deaths helping us, exactly?

75

74: So weird to go off on a tangent on the real world practicalities over a philosophical argument, much less wanting me to quantify gun deaths to answer some contorted abstract question. Sorry, but I don't have an answer for you.

76

@71 I definitely think Charlie Kirk's death was worth preserving the 2nd Amendment, in fact we should celebrate his death as the blood of that proud patriot refreshed the tree of liberty. If you don't celebrate Charlie Kirk getting sniped in the neck you must hate America and our freedoms.

77

@73 - Don't care, too bad, so sad.

78

The idea that this kid was a "Socialist" is so incredibly stupid that you really have to wonder about the intellectual capacity of someone who would believe it.

And that QAnon nut who was killed the process servers got exactly what she deserved. She had a right to bear arms, but so did the guy who shot her. In any event, had she survived she would just be a drain on society.

79

Tyler Robinson apparently was living with a male to female transgender person. Which is fine. So that may have been his motivation to take the life of Charlie Kirk.

Bureau officials confirmed that Tyler Robinson, 22, was in a "romantic relationship" with the unnamed person, who is a male transitioning to a female, and that they shared an apartment in Saint George, Utah. Those FBI officials told Fox News Digital that Robinson's partner is fully cooperating with the FBI's investigation."

90

Multiple law enforcement sources have confirmed that Robinson lived with a transgender partner—a biological male in the process of transitioning to female—in a shared apartment in Saint George, Utah. The partner, described as being in a romantic relationship with Robinson, has been "extremely cooperative" and "fully cooperating" with the FBI's investigation. This cooperation includes providing access to text messages and other communications between Robinson and the partner, which helped investigators confirm Robinson's identity as the shooter and solidify the timeline of events.

91

Robinson's father, a former sheriff's deputy and registered Republican, tipped off authorities after recognizing his son from surveillance footage released by FBI Director Kash Patel. Despite the family's conservative background, friends and investigators describe Robinson as the "only leftist" in his circle, with alleged ties to Antifa groups and a shift toward radical left ideology that sparked family arguments, including over Kirk's politics. Utah Governor Spencer Cox described Robinson as "deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology."

I tend to agree with this. Freedom is messy. Many people think that personal freedoms (of ALL kinds, not just gun ownership) always result in nice, tidy outcomes where everyone is happy. No. The more freedom and choice people have, the greater the odds of choosing wrong. I truly do not understand why personal freedom = everyone will make the right choice is the prevailing view.

Humans are animals with large brains, flawed, and often wrong. Giving us maximum freedom creates mild chaos, not order. We can't have it all.

Trump Promotes A “Charlie Kirk Act” To Establish A Ministry Of Truth

President Trump’s Truth Social account posted a viral video from TikTok on Saturday in which a Trump voter named Elly May blamed the assassination of Republican political operative Charlie Kirk on the press, urging the president to push for legislation which would make “news corporations accountable for lying to the American people and spreading propaganda instead of truth.

“This amended act will hold media outlets, radio stations, educators, and content creators accountable for the false narratives and erroneous information they spread deliberately or irresponsibly,” the petition reads, proposing heavy fines for those deemed to be in violation.

The other issue is of course that giving the government the authority to penalize propaganda and lies means giving the government the authority to determine what constitutes propaganda and lies. They could decide it’s a lie to say Israel is committing genocide in Gaza [@wormmy!], for example, or that it’s propaganda to say the US shouldn’t be waging a proxy war in Ukraine.

The “Charlie Kirk Act” is being pushed in the name of fighting propaganda, but it would actually be giving the US government unprecedented authority over what Americans are permitted to say on any platform.
