This ain't Olympic Pipelines first big spill. Is this spill acceptable this time since they didn't kill a bunch of children playing in the creek?

2

@1: Two different pipelines, the one to SeaTac is BP.

3

Olympic Pipeline spills are bad enough. An equally explosive topic is PSE methane (aka "natural" gas) pipes everywhere. It is backwards that methane pipe expansions by law must be paid for by all users yet water pipes, even in urban areas, are the sole responsibility of the end user. The public is forced to subsidize dangerous methane pipes everywhere yet squashes in-fill projects in the city due to lack of basic water pipes. No water and lots of nasty, toxic, explosive gas in homes. Brilliant!

@1, No method of transporting energy is safe and spill free.

Of the available methods, pipelines have the best safety rate. They pill far less than rail and truck tankers. They kill and injure far fewer people.

No energy source or use is without environmental trade-offs and costs. E.g. To develop enough battery and transmission capacity to electrify just the transportation sector would require 68 times the copper mining we do now. We would turn much of the world into open pit copper mines with the resulting impact on ground and stream water. You have an even greater impact with rare earth minerals.

That doesn't mean staying with fossil fuels is better or worse, just that whatever we do it will have environmental impact and we will consume faster than the earth produces whatever minerals or recycled dinosaurs we choose.

A link to a shooting report completely devoid of any context? Never let it be said The Stranger doesn't respond to customer complaints and suggestions in the SLOG comments.

6

@5, There likely isn't any context to report. Other than what what SPD put out, which is that they responded to a 911 call where someone was shot, and they found _ when they got there, and POSSIBLY stating that witnesses reported (unless that needs to be withheld for investigatory purposes), there is likely no additional reporting by any other source.

The Stranger, Seattle Times, King5, Kiro, et. al., don't have the staffing resources left to respond to a scene, talk to witnesses, and view video from businesses and bystanders. The best hope you have is a Sinclair-shaded, if it bleeds it leads, report from KOMO.

Since SPD's mission, budget, etc. is to gather facts and evidence that can be admitted in court, you aren't going to get any of the social, cultural, mental health, or other broader context that lead people to a violent encounter.

Unfortunate.

@10 Holocaust denial and Antisemitism are hallmarks of the far right. I know this has been confused by people who want to pain any criticism of Israel's far-right Likud government as Antisemitism, but actual Antisemitism is usually far right.

15

@9, of all the bizarre decisions of the Zizian cult, the most inexplicable to me was Ms. LaSota naming herself after an obscure minor nickname, of a side character, of the great Wildbow web serial "Worm". For anyone willing to read through a 6680 page ebook, there are many more fun and notable characters.

16

@14, That doesn't preclude it from being far left as well. Jews are getting it from both ends of the political spectrum.

It's sad about South Park and the BP pipeline.
