@28 I think the Stranger simply recognizes that most of its readers have moved on from that episode (regardless of how they may have felt about it at the time) to more pressing concerns and that the ST is much better equipped to report any significant developments that continue to stem from it. There's no reason for the Stranger to devote its comparatively meager resources to duplicating their coverage. That just isn't what alt media is for. (Now, if the ST weren't doing this reporting, I'd agree that the Stranger would indeed have that responsibility.) And reproducing an article in its entirety, as you appear to have done here, rather than quoting it selectively is very likely a copyright violation. At the very least it's a serious abuse of the commenting privilege.

Just one small comment on the Cal vs. Karl smackdown: It's worth noting that Chris Whipple is a serious, longtime student of White House chiefs of staff (a niche specialty if ever there were one). I would expect him to be the first to object publicly if Vanity Fair's editors mishandled his bylined work. If Wiles has any such objections she has an ethical obligation to state them clearly rather than cast vague aspersions on Whipple's or the magazine's reputation. Whipple and VF have no burden of defense if she doesn't do so. I'm not holding my breath waiting, as that kind of principled discourse just isn't the Trumpian way. In all likelihood, she's performing like a trained seal for an audience of one.

Obviously he's a loser with nothing better to do with his time and so would/will immediately create a new profile if and when he gets banned, though that doesn't mean it isn't the right thing to do. I'd wager it's probably more of a pain in the ass for a reader to create & register a new email account, then register a new slog profile from that email to comment here than it is for an admin to simply nuke a commenter's account. Though you'd then also have to also factor in that knife's obviously got nothing better to do with his time than create new and endless streams of burner email accounts, and the site admin's surely have more rich and fulfilling lives with friends and outside interests & hobbies that occupy their time.

NotMyopic has had something like 40 or 50 different profiles here over the years, and I've asked him a couple times if the expenditure of time & effort performing all of the mundane tasks necessary to repeatedly create new throwaway email accounts is truly justifiable given whatever he's apparently getting out of it, though he's never responded. I guess the obvious answer is yes, given that he continues to do it, but it honestly just strikes me as genuinely odd and inexplicable behavior. Really wish he or knife would weigh in, though I'd guess they won't as the obvious explanation is that they're just fucking losers with nothing better to do with their time than read and contribute content to a website they hate.
