The Flock citywide camera surveillance in Providence was crucial to finding the Brown University alleged killer:

"That detail led them to get more video of a Nissan Sentra sedan with Florida plates and enabled Providence police officers to tap into a network of more than 70 street cameras operated around the city by surveillance company Flock Safety."

https://apnews.com/article/brown-shooting-university-witness-tipster-e114eb38248e2023dcdf92a29e6c6b30

Where is The Stranger's criticism of such cameras, used in the public space, where one has no legal expectation of privacy, now?

3

"for having it [Marijuana] in place where it's still illegal."

Since Federal Laws cover the entire United States, where in the U.S. is MJ legal?

@ Bi-pedo/Knife/Back in Black...
Congratulations... here is your cookie.

Now, how about you just go fuck off and start your own blog.
If you have to keep changing 'nyms to keep commenting, maybe that's a 'you' problem.
(Also, celebrating nobody replying to the last late-night comment from you as a win is pretty weak sauce, even for you. You're slipping, dude...)

That Kansas steakhouse review is the best thing I've read all year. A fine critique of how the other half lives. I like knowing what they're up to, those fancy people.

About The Alchemy ($22), a cocktail the restaurant created for Taylor Swift, a woman who has never had to use Uber Jet. I ordered one, too, and a dedicated server brought out a martini glass with some steel wool tangled around the stem.

Pro tip - avoid the old fashioned butane lighter and use a 9V battery to ignite the steel wool. You could also use one of the spark lighters. Either the battery or the spark would be a classier presentation.

The only victim to be protected by withholding Epstein files is Trump. So sad, such a victim in all circumstances. Also, bride at every wedding, corpse at every funeral.

18

@16: Yes, the evidence that Donald Trump had sex with an underage girl is still nowhere to be found. Oh dear!

22

@12, Neale doesn’t know how to express an opinion without roping someone in to perform the role of straw man so can cast himself as the smartest guy in the room. He probably wants someone to list the legal states so he can say federal law supersedes state law so technically it’s not legal anywhere in the us even though it’s sold legally in like half the country.

23

@3: Weed is legal in all states except for Twelve states—Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah and Wisconsin—have zero-tolerance laws for certain drugs, including THC.

Some folks get so butt hurt when simple questions are asked on Slog. Just ignore them.

30

@26: Thanks for the corrections! That Google AI response to "What states have no tolerance for weed?" is obviously wrong.

37

@23, Weed is still illegal in the geographic locations you list. So there is no geographic location in the United States where weed is legal.

Natalie referred to places where its legal. There is no such place in the U.S.

The absence of a state law does not render an act or substance legal in that place if Federal Law applies. Why would an accurate reporter state otherwise?

38

STOP BASHING NATHALIE GRAHAM & OTHER STAFFERS PEOPLE

Just because you object to how any staffer is handling Slog reporting doesn't give you license to pollute our comment board with your juvenile peanut gallery buffoonery. If you don't see news that you want reported on, comment about it generally instead of nit picking on events that feed your overflowing outrage. Nobody cares about what you care about all of the time. No staffer can please all of us all of the time. Be nice, be gracious, be magnanimous. Don't be a bore. Even I should heed this advice.

Thank you for your cooperation to this matter!

Thanks

39

@37,

Nathalie (if you're going to be a pedantic ass, please spell her name correctly) didn't refer to places where weed is legal. Here is her synopsis of the story in it's entirety.

"Trump reclassified marijuana from a Schedule I drug to a Schedule III drug. This doesn't really do anything—it doesn't legalize weed or stop people from getting arresting for having it in place where it's still illegal—but it makes it easier to conduct research on the drug."

The only reference to legality is in noting that people can be arrested for having it in places where it's not legal.

You owe Nathalie an apology you stupid, myopic fuck.

40

@37, Theydies and gentlethems, please give it up for Neale Frothingham reprising his role as The Smartest Man In The Room in “The absence of a state law does not render an act or substance legal in that place if Federal Law applies”, supported by coolidge_dollar as Straw Man. Great work, guys.

It’s a little early for predictions but I’m calling it now, this is going to sweep the Trollies next year.

41

Barth can’t resist adding his own trolling arrogance to get included in the conversation.

42

I know Christmas is only 6 days away, but what with all the massive flooding and ground saturation.....EEK!
Wishing for snow right now is not a good idea, no matter how much the ski resorts, snowboarders, and kids want it. Nature is pissed. I-5, I-405, SR 20, USR 2, I-90, et al are basically unsafe nightmares.
Hard pass on Snowmageddon.

Thank you, Governor SuperBob Ferguson, for three new WSF ferries. Can you please send at least one of them up to Anacortes and the San Juans ASAP, along with more crew members, just in time for Christmas? Thanks!

43

@41, You need to learn how to take a compliment. I thought you would appreciate the recognition because you really leaned into the part right after i put out the casting call @22. Are you offended you were relegated to a supporting role? You should know Neale is the creative force behind this work. You should be proud of yourself!

43

@39, "it in place where it's still illegal." That statement requires places that it is legal, or there would be no need to differentiate places "where it's still illegal." If it is illegal everywhere, then she doesn't need to the statement does she? If she didn't mean to imply there were places it was legal then she could have stopped with, "it doesn't legalize weed or stop people from getting arresting (sic)." The rest of the sentence is unnecessary if she is correctly reporting it's still illegal everywhere in the U.S. (because federal law applies everywhere in the U.S.). So the only reason to include the rest of the sentence to differentiate places where it illegal from places where its legal.

44

Now blob is stealing the scene as the unwitting Straw Man #2 in the sequel, “That statement requires places that it is legal, or there would be no need to differentiate places "where it's still illegal.“”

You thought Neale was down for the count but you can’t take him out with facts or common sense. If anything challenging him with commonly understood concepts that no reasonable person would question will only make him stronger and his work more vital.

This is shaping up to be a historic day for troll theater and the night’s not over yet! What other sequels and spin offs do we have in store for us?

45

@27 kristofarian: Wow. First, he signs in as Valvoline, then Bioopsie, next as Putty Knife. Now he's angrily signing in as Black Barf. This batshit rabid 24/7 MAGA fool just doesn't want to go away, does he? Boredom for a deranged 14 year old must be hell. I feel sorry for his parents.
Black Barf is going to have to stop chugging Felon Mu$k's Mein Trumpf's KKKool-Aid before the floodwaters flush him out with the rest of the sewer rats. Nature's pissed.

46

@notmypic or @knife or whomever, what doesn’t make sense is that literally no one wants you here. Your discourse is not valuable and no one cares about you r thoughts and/or what else happened that Slog didn’t cover.

What your get out of this is unclear but like maybe do your own thing somewhere else. Your opinions are literally never followed and no one likes you. Read the room.

@ The Stranger/Slog...
Here is what I don't get...
Every other site I go to, when they ban someone, they do it by I/P address. Here, it is just by 'nym, so that's how we get (Bi-Pedo/Knife/We'reBackBaby/BackInBlack/among countless others, now the TimWalz one.

If y'all are going to nuke a 'nym, please nuke their I/P address at the same time. It may not keep them away, but at least it makes them work a bit harder to troll, instead of just coming up with a new stupid 'nym.

70

Not to mention you couldn't chime in on Slog while traveling!

71

@43,

You falsely say that the statement "it doesn't legalize weed or stop people from getting arresting for having it in place where it's still illegal" necessitates that there are places where weed is legal.

At the absolute worst, the statement perhaps sloppily infers that places where it's legal could conceivably exist, which could be misleading (though even this is subject to debate, as a fellow pedant would likely point out that it was legal throughout the country prior to 1937.) Regardless, whatever ambiguity exists doesn't render the objectively factual aspect of the statement itself, which is that it doesn't legalize weed or stop people from getting arrested in places where it's still illegal, inaccurate.

You also objectively and falsely state that "Natalie referred to places where its legal." She referred to no such places. I look forward to your apology which I'm sure won't be forthcoming because you're an idiot and an asshole.

The Trump Vibe Shift Is Dead; Dec. 21, 2025,
by Ezra Klien

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/21/opinion/trump-economy-vibe-shift.html

My life is pretty good. I’m a single mom, we have a roof over our heads, food on the table. I’ve got a job I love. I have a family I love. I don’t need much. When I’ve voted -especially in a presidential election, I vote for the person whom I think will be able to help those who need it more than I do. Even before I had my son,

I was quite naive about the rest of white America. 49% of voters decided to give another chance to the man who incited January6th.

They have enabled the roll back of environmental laws, climate change, food & worker safety protections and the dismantling of the DOE. These acts will have terrible consequences down the line.

They enabled RFK Jr. , who in my opinion is the scariest, worst of them all, to be the head of our entire healthcare apparatus. This man doesn’t believe in science. He’s already begun to shred our vaccine program. What do people expect to happen?

My son is autistic. He is 17 & well aware of Kennedys open hostility towards autistic people and the disability community. With their vote they have put my kid in harms way. With cuts to Medicaid, it will take away programs that help special needs kids thrive.

I could go on & on about their disastrous hateful vote .
I find it hard to exist next to those that voted for Trump. I will never forgive them.

--Jacqui; Brooklyn. · Dec. 21

[in reply to] @Josh Hill [replying to Jacqui]

I will respectively disagree. I'm in a blue collar profession
serving wealthy clients. I also used to belong to a
mainstream denomination Protestant church.

I know many people who are Trump supporters,
even if they aren't overtly MAGA.

There are many different types [of] people who voted for Trump and support him, and I can honestly say that most of them who I regularly come in contact with are genuinely decent people.

The number one thing that almost all of them have in common,
at the exclusivity of everything else, is their dependence
on information coming from right wing news outlets.

For old people, it's Fox News or Newsmax, or some other
mainstream outlet. For younger people, it's social media
or some other siloed content. It's absolutely incredible
how many people don't read anything at all, but just
consume whatever visual/audio content that is
slanted toward whatever position they may be
currently holding. And they will do this for
hours every day, either through keeping
the TV on all day or listening to a podc-
ast. It's a tough nut to crack.

I suppose, but its super easy, like on YouTube for example, to watch podcasts from both the left (like the Bulwark, Jennifer Welch - I've Had It, Brian Tyler Cohen, David Pakman) and the right (like Pierce Morgan, Ben Shapiro, Jo Rogan, Megyn Kelly).
A lot of people are naturally curious as to what their adversaries are saying. The proliferation of podcasters is very helpful in that regard.
