Rather than give attention to Trump's deranged ramblings at Davos, why not point people toward another speech at Davos which should go down among the great political speeches of the 21st century? This is from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Here's the video of the full speech:

Here's the transcript:

If you want to understand the difference between the Canadian character and the American character, the fact that they have Mark Carney as their elected political leader and we have Trump says all you need to know. We once had a president of a character and intellect approaching Carney's in Barack Obama. You wonder if we are capable anymore of having such a leader.
@1: I think it's more like the fault of the RNC and DNC and corporations that facilitate crummy candidates into becoming presidential nominees, than the choices, much less wishes, of the American people.
The church disruption was a tactical error that I hope (and trust) will not be repeated. No matter how justified -- and I agree this one was -- intruding on a worship service does not sit well with a very large swath of persuadable, culturally conservative but non-MAGA voters. By all means, picket white supremacist pastors, but do it outside the church.
Hey everybody the Goon Squad just issued an internal memo that says the Constitution doesn't apply to them and they can do whatever they want hope that clears things up.
@1 Who could've possibly guessed we'd get the typical haughty superiority from our northern neighbors. This is what you get when you mix the superciliousness of the Englishman with the stench of the French...
@7, I appreciate your observations. Always good to get a MAGA perspective on Carney's speech. Gives a little extra insight into our national character.
@1. Couldn't agree more. If Europe in fact finds a meaningful policy pivot to address the "rupture" Carney's words will be for history books. I'm just not sure Europe knows how to respond.
nekrasova @12, I appreciate that you always have to try to normalize your MAGA message by claiming that it's not MAGA.
And I can understand why you would have scorn and contempt for Mark Carney's speech. It just doesn't reflect your warped authoritarian values. I'm sure Lincoln's Gettysburg address must make you spittin' mad.
@3 great comment Phoebs, when you're right you're right
@6 on the other hand, everyone point and laugh at the goof who thinks the question whether law enforcement can forcibly enter your home without a warrant issued by a detached magistrate hasn't been litigated so we can't know if it's Constitutional
On the de-ICE front, this amusing story surfaced, "US citizens are putting Mexican flag stickers on their cars to delay ICE agents." That'll show em! What will ICE do when PCC parking lots across the country are brimming with Mexican flag stickered Priuses?
No. Here's what needs to be done;
1. Trade away your BMWs for used pickups and fill the beds with landscaping tools.
Host your Farmers Markets in Lowes parking lots. Loiter there with Narcocorridas blaring from your vehicle. Bonus points for Mota clouds.
3.Show up to your office job with MS 13 temporary tattoos emblazoned across your forehead and on your knuckles. Be an early adapter! This look will soon replace those drab kaffiyehs.
Attend Catholic church services. I know. This is going to a be tough one for many, but hey, shared oppression is never calorie free.
If you follow these basic steps, you might be a lucky winner and get violently hauled off and thrown into a holding cell, where you can meet actual MS 13 members and perhaps exchange socials! Solidarity!
@15, The Fourth Amendment is probably the most litigated part of the Constitution.
Further, there are many exceptions to the 4th Amendment applied just to immigration, immigrants, and immigration enforcement.
Immigration and immigration enforcement is it's own little 4th Amendment "cul-de-sac".
Unlike other legal issues here, I make no pronouncements on the outcome, legality, or Constitutionality of the assertions in the Administration's memo. There just aren't the volume of test cases and precedent.
In this case, there is zero precedent. I have no idea where SCOTUS would come down on this. I am confident that we need to find out. So let's bring on a lawsuit to test the assertions of the Administration in this memo.
Checks and balances and all that stuff. The "man" is asserting something, and the "man" should not go unchallenged in that assertion.

@14 Go read the last several times I answered that (I mean, unless you're too senile to remmeber that, in which case check into a memory care unit) and then go to a pro to get your humiliation fetish itch scratched. Leave innocent bystanders out of your kinks.
@20, With revisionist history. Your prediction at the time was tugs would be recommended by NTSB. They were not. Then you predicted they would required.
Instead NTSB gave some wishy-washy recommendation to bridge owners in the United States to evaluate their bridges for structural resilience in the event of a collision and to implement structural upgrades if warranted, leaving it up to those bridge owners to do that or not. (NTSB has no regulatory authority, and unlike with aircraft, there is no single regulatory entity, leaving what remediation, if any, to Congress and the discretion of the bridge owner).
Hardly the watershed moment in bridge and maritime regulation and safety you were predicting in your posts in the days after the bridge collapse.
I predicted the NTSB would not recommend tugs, and Congress would not mandate them.
@17: For someone claiming not to be MAGA you certainly are uncritically regurgitating the administration’s claims despite witnesses and video to the contrary.
@18 I don't think there's been a SCOTUS case regarding whether USPS delivery people can forcibly enter your home without a warrant, do you think they probably can until we hear definitively otherwise?
Or, if you prefer, instead of answering you can attach jumper cables to your nipples while picturing your dad calling you useless when you were a child.
@20, @24: While @6, etc. certainly has written some bizarrely wrong things here in this thread, I don't think commenters who have themselves cited "from the River to the Sea" web sites (and, in one case, Fox News!) as reliable sources of information should talk about anyone else's supposed "humiliation fetish." ;-)
@22 You are wrong - there is absolutely no "video evidence" or neutral witness contradicting the reporting that the father fled. Fleeing during an immigration enforcement approach is common and plausible. Detaining the child with his father in a family facility follows standard protocol when no immediate safe caregiver is available, and DHS details about the mother's refusal and the father's request logically explain why the boy wasn't released locally. The "using the child as bait" claim is a charged, second-hand interpretation lacking video evidence or neutral corroboration. I am solely interesting in what actually happened, minus the sensationalism, and I'd encourage you to join me and adopt a similar and less partisan approach.
@22: Both sides are taking liberties with the truth, including the news media, so hold your horses dear. We all have to do extra digging these days for the facts.
Please wait...
and remember to be decent to everyone all of the time.

No music video Micah? Keep up the tradition! I suggest something retro for your boomer readers like Rosemary Clooney or Jo Stafford.

@5, Since the specific scenario in the ICE Memo has never been litigated, we don't know if it's Constitutional or not.
Lawyers have conflicting opinions, and until it's litigated, we won't have a decision on which lawyer's opinion is correct
@1 Who could've possibly guessed we'd get the typical haughty superiority from our northern neighbors. This is what you get when you mix the superciliousness of the Englishman with the stench of the French...

The winning showcase on The Price Is Right today was a trip to Seattle, Nuremberg, and Bora Bora. Nice that we're still thought of for that.
@9 I can think of a lot of people who ought to win a trip to Nuremberg.
@1. Couldn't agree more. If Europe in fact finds a meaningful policy pivot to address the "rupture" Carney's words will be for history books. I'm just not sure Europe knows how to respond.
@8 Nothing MAGA about it, but I'm glad you'll be a little better able to spot the legendary Canadian pomposity in the future.
nekrasova @12, I appreciate that you always have to try to normalize your MAGA message by claiming that it's not MAGA.

A small detail omitted from the Minneapolis story - Father of the Year abandoned his child to run away from police.
