Not sure why all the hubbub about Brittany being “worth” another prisoner. Imagine being traded like a trafficked human and sized up like that. We support all Americans.

3

@1 Prisoner exchanges like this have been going on for centuries. Actually, Millennia.

It was always the probable outcome in this case. The only question was how long it would take to get it done.

A sad story: CM Herbold, protégée to the great Nick Licata, exits the stage after a mere two terms. Her internal polling numbers must be catastrophic indeed, but her grip on reality is worse. A progressive follows her in District 1, after the mess she’s made? Highly unlikely. West Seattle is the most remote and suburban part of Seattle, and the communities of color in South Park and the southern reaches of the peninsula want more police presence, not less, in their neighborhoods. There’s a reason this headline post doesn't mention defund or CHAZ/CHOP, both of which she embraced wholeheartedly, in direct repudiation of her re-election promise to fund SPD properly.

Her reason for not running makes no sense at all. No doubt TS will find some quasi socialist like Morales and endorse them while the mayor will have his own preferred candidate. Having her in the race does nothing to change that. As noted above I would guess her internal polling shows her constant waffling has caught up to her and she wouldn’t make it out of the primary. Heck the whole campaign would be a loop of playing her saying she was going to add police and then turning around and voting for defunding.

FWIW D1 voted for Harrell by over 60% last year so the thought of someone more left then Herbold winning this seat seems like a long shot but it should be fun to watch

@5 I still have a hard time seeing Motales losing.
I think there is a greater chance Sawant loses but they’ll both def be running.

fuck me.
I've logged

@13: I wouldn't say they're slurs exactly, but more like endearing monikers that are well deserved.

Herbold is the Kyrsten Sinema of Seattle. Run by claiming you support certain policies and then totally abandon them by supporting different policies that are toxically unpopular after you're elected. At least Herbold has the good sense to quit rather than do something even dumber to desperately try to save her career like Sinema has.

At least Herbold got permanent additional fire department staffing in her district before she quit. Too little, too late though, as I'm sure she was waiting to see if it turned around the damage she had done to herself by supporting defunding SPD and when it didn't she was done. Maybe other council members should pay attention: more public safety staffing is not only good policy, it's good politics too!

Morales bowing out.... a very good start. Time to clean house and get some center party democrats with common sense ...who actually show up to city hall.

Uninsured have always had access to health insurance... under the affordable care act.... seems they just chose not to buy it and clog the ER when they have a health issue.... While we are at it ... why did my premium go up 85% and deductible go to $5000 under the "affordable care act"... seems its misnamed "Unaffordable Care Act" might be more accurate.

@17: I see your point. But I've grown to accept that we have an acceptable lower bar here in Slogland. The colorful disparagement of our adversaries is a relief from pedantic seriousness.

25

@22 Oh. My. Skyrocketed, huh? Human Trafficking you say! Well that's a very dark picture you painted. Using the color brown. As in horseshit.

26

@22 Doggiepoo: Try not to fall in when you flush, lil MAGAt. Puget Sound already has more than enough toxic waste. Maybe if you looked up from your phone every once in a while when crossing in traffic? Try not to hurt yourself.

@25 RogertheShrubber, re @22: He can't help himself. He just got here late into the party. As a devout MAGAt transplant Dogis is new to the area and all too eager to show off his woeful ignorance.

27

@22: Please disregard the and tedious and cantakerous comments in @25 and @26. Your input is totally welcome here. God Bless you dear.

If no one else cares to say it, a Moose in MRNP is a very good sign. More Moose in W. WA, please.
