I am a 24 year old college student from Seattle and the only nominee I actually want to win the democratic nomination is Bernie Sanders. Looking at the red aisle is truly scary, Bernie polls better against frontrunner Donald Trump. Endorse Bernie, he resonates with younger voters. I am not sure I would support Hillary Clinton as she does not represent many of my views. This would be a larger issue in the presidential election because young voters may well not turn out to a "business as usual" Clinton campaign, myself included. So please endorse Bernie Sanders.

You should definitely be backing Bernie Sanders. He has stood by his beliefs of helping the people for the past 30 years and his stance has never wavered. He wants this country to be governed by the people for the people. He has stood with unions for years. He's introduced more legislation than any other politician to support our veterens. He believes in all people receiving good and equal opportunity to education. These aren't radical ideas how the media would like you to believe. Why is it such a radical idea for the government to want the betterment of the people they are serving? I believe it's time this country starts working for the people again and not the few corporate elites. This country has moved so far to the right that a cenerist is seen as a leftist radical. Even Nixon would seem leftist by todays standards. It's time for this country to have a have a President that stands what this country original stood for.

Bernie Sanders has fought on the right side of the issues for his entire life whether that side was popular or not (civil rights, lgbt rights, against NAFTA, against the Iraq war, for a few examples). Hilary has not. He is a true leader - willing to fight for what's right when few others are doing the same.

And do you believe the US is an oligarchy or a democracy? I believe it is an oligarchy, and Sanders is the only one to fight against that to turn our country back into the democracy that it was meant to be. Hillary is owned by the oligarchy already, as most have been over the years. Bernie is ready to fight for the people.

Senator Sanders has had 34+ Years in an Elected Office, over 50+ years of political activist experience, and has always held his positions throughout his career with complete consistency. Bernie is a great choice for this country due to his history of activism, his leadership, and his 40 year record of consistency. Bernie’s popularity is growing across the country. Thus, I am asking you to make a similar endorsement soon, like the Seattle Times invaluable and powerful precedent!

Your publication that is very popular among various age groups, and the has always been independent of the main stream media. Many readers view the Stranger as a refreshing choice for quality journalism. In the same sense, Senator Bernie Sanders, with his proven track record of doing “what is right,” represents quality, integrity, thoughtfulness, and other long overdue leadership traits and a profound credibility. It would be a great move if the Inlander would show their readers that they align with those same values by endorsing Sanders. Please, don't listen to the president -- he is, of course, one of the Democratic Party elites, and he's going to support the other one. It is to Hillary Clinton's personal and campaign advantage to have Bernie Sanders drop out of the race, but it is to nobody else's advantage, and certainly not to the advantage of the American people.

The Sanders campaign has always known that March 15th would mark the last of Clinton's firewall. She has nothing left to hold against him, and almost all his best states are ahead. It is ridiculous to insist that he drop out before more than half the states in the union have even voted. It will not do the Republicans any good to have him in the race -- it will do US, the people of America, good to have him in the race, for exactly the same reasons Clinton and Obama don't want him there... because he will, at bare minimum, force Clinton to deal with issues she really doesn't want to have to make promises about; and he might just win.

Bernie Sanders is the only serious progressive who has run for president in my adult lifetime and I'm 46. He is the only serious choice for a progressive paper like the Stranger. If the Stranger follows "expediency" and endorses a Republican Lite -- a Goldwater Girl; a centrist from a time when "center" means further to the right than "Republican" meant during the Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford or Reagan years -- then all you will get is a candidate who will represent the 1% just as every other president has, whether Democrat or Republican, for the last thirty-five years.

Please. There is only one choice. Endorse Bernie Sanders and help us to build the government we need, not the government we're being pressured to settle for. We can do so, so much better than this.

I am not young, 62 yo, have been a lifelong democrat, and would love to see a woman in the white house as president in my lifetime. But, NOT Hillary. Bernie Sanders stands for what is needed to make this world livable for future generations on so many levels, from our food to our climate to equality for all. Bernie Sanders has pushed Hillary Clinton to the left yes but will she stay there in the general or in the White House? Trump and Sanders are populists and they both run anti-establishment while Clinton is establishment so she does not match up well. Trump represents the 1% and is personally, with the help of main stream media, purchasing the presidency while with Sanders the people are purchasing the presidency. Both Sanders and Trump hype people up where Clinton does not. I think that Sanders has a better chance against Trump. The nomination is not over yet anyways. I am 100% in favor of Bernie Sanders being the next president of the USA. He has a huge history of passing legislation that works. He is honest and the well being of all citizens in his actions. Most importantly, he will work to reform campaign financing rules. It is time to get the money of the extremely wealthy out of the pockets of our elected officials. Bernie Sanders! His movement is changing the national conversation, and in a very good way. I'm definitely caucusing for him. He's inspiring people to become involved in this democracy again. Every vote for him and every endorsement brings a stronger message to the democratic party of where we want it to go. Hillary is already adopting a bunch of his standpoints. But more importantly, he can actually win and I trust he'd be an excellent president. Every president will face obstruction in congress. But if he only accomplished one single thing, his number one goal of campaign finance reform and overturning Citizen's United, he will have done this country a great, great service. He is being downplayed by the establishment and media to make it seem like his election is impossible, but that's just not accurate. And one last side note, Seattle already has the $15 minimum wage he's calling for... we of all places can see that his policies are a real possibility!

Since President Obama was comparing Bernie to Bush, not HRC, I doubt it bothered her. The last time the “likeable” remark was a direct jab from the moderator and a sideswipe from Obama. This time he was pointing out that Sanders is often called the more "authentic" person but that is a meaningless accolade, and he cited Bush to show why. The sideswipe was for Bernie. President Obama is also suggesting, and I agree, that it's time to stop the character attacks and unite behind one candidate and that should be Hillary Clinton. He didn’t endorse, but was nudging us to think differently. We need all the time we can get to hone our fight against Trump and prepare plans B and C in the event their convention does implode and provide us with candidate X.

Whatever the Sanders campaign has done to strengthen HRC, it’s done now. There are no new issues to develop, and too much of the Sanders campaign rhetoric both from the candidate and certainly from his surrogates and followers consists of attacks on Clinton’s trustworthiness, honesty, and likeability. They are now helping Republicans damage the Democratic frontrunner rather than attracting new Sanders’ supporters. Keeping on with a campaign using exaggeration, innuendo, and sometimes outright lies about its opponent serves no good purpose. I’m sure Sanders supporters feel that their candidate is also being damaged and there is equally no good reason to keep him under attack.

The money that would be spent keeping the Sanders’ campaign on life support could be put to better use in senatorial and even House campaigns. I doubt that many Sanders supporters would donate to Hillary, but they would surely want to contribute to close races that could tip the balance of power in Congress. I hope you will endorse Hillary Clinton. She is an admirable public servant who has and will continue to do whatever she can to make this a better country for everyone. Let’s go in the direction of ‘love and kindness.’

I lived in a country with social democratic views (Germany) I'm voting for Bernie because I want my friends, family and neighbors to have the same high quality of life I enjoyed there: excellent public media, more annual/sick/maternity leave at work, health care for all, a place to live for the homeless, free college education, care for the mentally ill, etc etc, it wasn't perfect, but it was better than here in terms of income equality. Who gains most when we don't strive for this?

It's going to be an uphill battle to make progressive changes in this country no matter who gets elected (Hillary has no real strategy to break gridlock, and she's far more hated by the right than Bernie is), but only Bernie understands that the "inside game" of politics is hopelessly rigged and corrupt, and that the only hope is to change the "outside game." I trust his political instincts, and think that he understands the average American's views and psychology way better than poll-tested politicians do, and I think that people underestimate the power he would have from the bully pulpit.

I also think Hillary isn't NEARLY as strong a general election candidate as people think she is, not only because she's uninspiring to liberal voters, but because of her current FBI investigation and the possibility of being indicted; on the other hand, people underestimate how hard millenials would fight for Bernie in a general election if he got nominated. Furthermore, what can the right throw at Bernie that they didn't throw at Obama? The "fascism" and "communism" cry was done to exhaustion the last eight years, and Obama still won re-election. ALSO (sorry this is poorly written but I don't have a lot of time right now) Bernie would not only win Democrat voters - there are more registered Dems than Republicans in this country - but he would win the votes of many people who tend not to vote for either party and would be extremely competitive with independents.

Also, Bernie clearly gives a shit about people, while Hillary simply seems to be running because she really wants to become president. I actually don't know what she believes on a ton of huge issues, like trade, war, Wall Street, and more.

There are more reasons I support Bernie over Hillary, but no time left right now.... Thanks!!

It really bothers me to hear people reguritate, almost word for word, the rhetic Hillary has been spouting. "Bernie doesn't have enough experience" - Uh, really? By my count, Bernie has been in public office a lot longer than Hillary- She was not actually in public office as first lady, she was not voted in. She was a senator for 8 years, and then a disgraceful run at secretary of state for 4 years. So, 12 years for Hill- Bernie Sanders has been in public office for 33 years!!

People repeat the tired line that Hillary "gets things done"- again, repeating the BS rheteric that she invented. Bernie has been known as the "amendment king" for his ability to reach across the aisle to put in all kinds of provisions for the American people. However, even the Rolling Stone recently noted that large media organizations like the New York Times have "sandbagged" Bernie by downplaying the role that he has had in congress. What exactly is it that Hill has "gotten done"?? She introduced only a couple of bills in congress, that were all for stupid easy votes like renaming a statue or something. Her time as Secretary of State, she managed to convince Obama that he should increase the counter-insurgency, make the middle east more unstabel by killing Gaddafi, endorse a coup in Honduras..... None of that sounds like the kind of things we should have done. So when sHillary says she "Gets things done" just remember that is killing people, and getting all the wrong things done that we don't need.

Bernie Sanders is the only good choice, no matter what your political affiliation is. I'm an independent caucusing with Dems on Saturday. Both Republicans and Democrats have been corrupted by a broken campaign finance system and lobby industry. Bernie is a rare, uncorruptable politician. Hillary's ideas aren't progressive. She leads from the rear. Bernie is showing us where our country needs to go. As long as the healthcare industry, the private prison industry, the defense industry, and others control the political process, we will not make any meaningful progress as a nation.

Detractors point to resumes. I vehemently disagree. Sanders has a reputation as the "amendment king" in Congress, getting things done via legislative side-doors. He revamped the VA with McCain after reports of long wait times, and it shows with his vast veteran endorsements. NYT had a story about this until it was edited to be disparaging a day later.

I would rather have a leader who relentlessly defends the middle class than one who sells it out for corporate interests like free trade and prisons for profit.

I am surprised this is a question as well. While both candidates are social progressives (one took a more windy road to get there) Bernie is more progressive on economic and foreign policy. Just review articles by Robert Reich and Jeffrey Sachs. (Two little time to dig in deeper here.)
Additionally, Bernie, because of his values across issues is more of a feminist in my opinion. As a woman in my late thirties I see our votes as impacting not just our country but the entire world. We need to aggressively push back on money in politics, corporate authoring of trade deals and regulations, and interventionist wars. Or we'll keeping fucking it up for everyone.

I agree with the people above who said that the endorsement should not be based on election strategy but on the candidate. I also agree that endorsing Sawant is a useless and silly gesture. It would just make the Stranger seem like they're treating the election as a joke (which is not an opinion about Sawant herself). Likewise, not endorsing Hillary is not the same as endorsing Trump. The endorsement is about here now and who would be the best president and, in my opinion, there's no dobut that between the two Bernie Sanders is the best.

- In a matchup against Trump- Bernie wins and Hillary loses.

6) He has cross-party appeal

- He is the most Libertarian candidate on the ballot
- He is the most Independent candidate on the ballot

7) He believes in health care as a right

- He fights for a single payer system that will cost less overall

8) He fights for the middle class:

- The policies of the past 40 years have led to a gross imbalance of wealth where those with the most are becoming increasingly wealthy while the workers of this country have lost wages, jobs, and savings. We don’t want equal distribution. We want equal opportunity

9) He doesn’t want to tell you what to do

- His gun policies are sane
- His drug policies are sane

There is no question, that Bernie should be receiving the endorsement of all educated and thinking people. The DNC, the MSM, and the broader political establishment, has rigged the game, played dirty politics, alternated between ignoring Bernie, or painting it in terms of inevitability. It's clear the game is fixed, and frankly anyone voting for Hillary, is pretty much blessing the plutocratic takeover of our country. Bernie has been an outsider in D.C., but he has nearly always caucused and sided with the Democrats, with a 30+ year career of sterling integrity and passion for helping the people, consistency of views, and having time prove his views to be the correct ones. Bernie is the oldest contender, and yet is the most in touch with the needs and of the liberal (and many not so liberal) young adults of the USA. He had plenty to learn, but had shown a willingness to invite people into the conversation when confronted with something beyond his experience. You can endorse the candidate who supported NAFTA, who supported welfare "reform", who supported DOMA, who voted for the illegal invasion of Iraq and the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians, who opposed gay rights until it was clear this was a political liability, who lied repeatedly about landing in Bosnia under sniper fire despite video evidence clearly showing that no such thing happened, who supported the military coup in Honduras while arguing that children fleeing the violence there must be sent back to "send a message", who supported regime change in Libya and laughed at Qaddafi's death but had no plan for the aftermath, resulting in a failed state and a terrorist haven, who undermined Kofi Annan's attempts to negotiate a ceasefire in Syria by insisting (once again) on externally imposed regime change, contributing to the massive refugeee crisis ongoing today, who has said she's willing to consider a constitutional amendment against late-term abortions, who claims the Reagans were the ones who lead the way in responding to the AIDS epidemic, who has made millions of dollars from Wall Street but continues to insist that there will be no quid pro quo, who will say or do virtually anything to get elected but has no apparent principle beyond personal ambition, who has a negative approval rating when no candidate in the history of modern polling has won the White House with a negative approval rating, who will turn her back the moment your vote is no longer needed, who in terms of policy is basically indistinguishable from Condoleeza Rice.

Or you can endorse the candidate who has been on the right side of almost every issue, consistently, for almost 40 years. Who is supported by record numbers of small-money donors and does not take corporate contributions or have a Super PAC. Who in eight months has come from almost complete obscurity to seriously contending with the most well-financed, most establishment candidate in history, in the face of blatant favoritism from the DNC, during a strongly anti-establishment election. Who is the only candidate in the race from either major party with a positive approval rating across the entire political spectrum. Who appeals to independents, new voters, and even Republicans desperate for an honest candidate.

I can see why it's a tough call.

People acknowledge and value how he has pulled Clinton to the left. Do people honestly think Hillary will continue with these new found values if she becomes president?! She only gives lip service. If the Stranger endorses someone who didn't believe in marriage equality until it was safe, is willing to compromise on women's rights (by saying she thinks abortion should be rare), and constantly has to apologize for what she says and does (Nancy Reagan, mass incarceration, Iraq war, etc.) I will be utterly disgusted. At the end of the day Hillary is a fear-mongering, war hawk Republican.
