Our neighbors (who were Indians, not African-Americans) had the same N word written in peanut butter on their garage door, along with a dismally untalented artist's impression of a dick. Cops said it was just kids blowing off steam.

Kids do stupid stuff. But kids who do this sort of stupid stuff are growing up in a home where no one teaches them that this stuff is not only stupid, but not OK. There's some really horrible parenting going on.

I hate to say this, but as a teacher, I've been hearing about a big increase in racially focused harassment within Seattle schools and young people's social media lately. I can only surmise that young people who are still forming their opinions about the world are seeing Trump and others spewing this crap. This is causing racial protest, and that is leading to said protesters getting smacked down and then that footage is hitting social media hard. The kids are in this loop. They see this stuff. They are being duped into thinking that this kind of rhetoric is ok or at least normal. We, as a community of decent humans, need to do more to negate it.

High school kids have been spray painting swastikas like hotcakes for a thousand years. It's what dumbfucks do.

This is horrible. So sorry to hear this happened in my neighborhood. Would encourage some the neighbors on the block to think about making a public show of support by posting BLM signs in their yard. We started doing that in my part of the neighborhood and now have about 17 up within a 4 block area. A couple of our neighbors of color have said that it has made a positive difference in how they feel about living in the neighborhood which is heavily white and not aways as welcoming as we many imagine ourselves to be.
