No mention of the guy who tried to get a gun through security at the Capitol building yesterday I see...

http://wtop.com/dc/2016/03/capitol-compl…

The cops shot him when he drew a weapon after refusing to go through a metal detector. He is in stable condition at an area hospital, no one else was harmed.

It seems like the guy has mental issues, he recently wrote a letter to the state claiming the law does not apply to him (he has an outstanding warrant for disrupting Congress before).

Jail time for those clearcutting homeowners, and then they should be required to registered as sex offenders for the rest of their lives.
3
Lol, only in Seattle would it be a felony to cut down a damn tree. A TREE! Wow, just wow.
4
The poor dude who climbed a tree is in jail while the rich people who cut them down won't serve any time at all.
5
Stable, as in a place where horses, not real human women, are kept.
Sounds like something Charles would write. I had to double check to make sure he wasn't doing the morning news today.

What happened to the post about the RV that burned up on the Hill? It's disappeared...

@3
Not "A" tree. Multiple trees, actually a lot, on public land.
9
The RV post is back, but the link to comments takes you to a 404. What the heck, dude

If Sound Transit and Metro want voters to support additional transit they need to start acting like Seattle is a "world class city". Light rail should have some amount of late night / night owl service and maybe Metro should fix the fucking bus feeds going to and from Husky Stadium Station BEFORE the September shake up. No one's going to take light rail if you have to wait 30 minutes for a bus to show up and take you close to your home on a Sunday afternoon. People will drive if that's the case.

Oh, those are the "tree" "stumps"? They look shrub-sized. From all the reporting on it I figured 150 old growth redwoods were slaughtered.

Make the homeowners pay not only to restore the trees on public property, but to pay for a giant wall obstructing ALL views of the water to be built on their own properties. That would be more apt than jail time IMO.

Some years ago here in Vancouver a lady was convicted of poisoning a number of large trees to force their removal and thus improve her view. She had to pay a fine, and she also had to pay a very large amount to purchase a bunch of fairly mature trees to replace the ones she'd ruined. Plus of course the public humiliation. Seemed an appropriate punishment to me.

@3, this is Washington. If you cut down someone else's trees, you end up paying treble damages in the resulting civil suit.

But then, public greenbelts are only for the little people, aren't they?
20
Should put up a big "Cutting down public trees is a Felony" banner in from of their new view until the new trees grow back. And have them pay for it.

(Front) not (from) darn you Otto Korrect

@ 8 and 17.

We are talking about TREES! Who the fuck cares. Jesus, when did the whole tree hugging hippie stereotype become mainstream. This is why we are laughed at in other States.
23
@12 @22 You support theft, as long as it is done by people you approve of.
24
@22: What part of trees, hillsides, rain, erosion, and mudslides do you not understand?
25
@24 What part of who cares don't you understand?
26
@25: Could be that victims of erosion, mudslides and the like care. Look, just because you have no idea of the factors involved in these issues does not mean they are not important.

Look at it this way: it is illegal to destroy or take things that do not belong to you. It does not matter if they are trees, nickels, or socks. Can't do it. Rule of law, you know?

Please wait...
