Thanks for this.

April 24th is Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. Last chance for the Obama admin. to make good on his promise to recognize the killings as genocide.

Good thought trail.

This is epic.

Merkel is treading murky ethical waters right now.

And ErdoฤŸan is an increasingly dangerous asshole.

The 'smear poem' is not the same as the satirical song set to music. It's pretty much just slander and insults which the comedian prefaced by saying 'this is illegal'. The problem is that the EU needs Turkey to enforce their terrible deportation deal to keep refugees out and Erdogan has us by the balls. If Germany doesn't prosecute he may just stop enforcing the deal and let the refugees through into Europe.

Nice read.

As for Germans not being able laugh in reference to the holocaust, too soon, as they say.

The last few verses kind of blew me away. I did NOT see them coming -- and am grateful they did.
8
Made me think of the IDF. Kids with guns, bullying dehumanized people so the kids' beautiful parents can go to their stolen beach in safety.
9
Thank you, Sherman

@8, I think you probably haven't been to Israel or even looked at a map, since there's no beach in the West Bank. There are other nasty remarks you can make about the Jewish state (the only one in the world, as contrasted with the many Arab/Muslim states), so move on to those.

Damn.

@8, Those IDF soldiers are probably at the beach on their day off, but they're required to carry their rifles with them at all times.

@10, the Dead Sea has beaches. Or maybe @8 was remembering Gaza before the handover. Anyway, Israel absolutely was stolen from people who now live as refugees in their own land. Being unique and special as a country does not change the facts of its origin or its continuing oppression of the Palestinians. http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/16/politics/b…

He always, always leaves me breathless.
Another, my favourite, poem of his (it's been in my profile all along): http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems-an…

So damn good - thank you Sherman! I love so much of what you write and I still get the chills from a reading you did at Hugo House about sleep......................you make me proud to live in our great city.

Please wait...
